Has Juice Plus made anyone feel bad?

I am taking it.. though the week before last I missed it a lot. That week I felt pretty good. Now this week I've been taking it everyday and I have been feeling more lightheaded and been having brain fog.

I also am on flagyl. I do 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. However I've been taking flagyl for a couple months now and haven't noticed a difference in the 2 weeks on vs. the 2 weeks off. The flagyl seems to not really affect me.

So anyway, just wondering if anyone noticed any side effects from Juice Plus. I'm thinking of not taking it for this week to see if it makes a difference.

YES! I was on it when I became ill. I didn't konw I had LD then and kept taking it thinking it would kick in and I would start feeling better. I just kept getting worse. Don't know what would be in it to do that though.

Ok that's interesting that it can make people feel bad. I had never even thought about it until last night. I was stumped as to why this week is any different as I have been making a lot of progress. I hope it is just the Juice Plus- though that does make me a little angry since I spent so much on it!

Thanks guys! I'll see how this week goes and hopefully that will tell me what is causing my worsening of symptoms.

Juice Plus (as well as other natural products) can cause detox reactions that can make you feel poorly AT FIRST. Detox reactions are a sign that the product is working! Your body clears debris when it gets plenty of goo nutrition. You should not stop the product, but rather reduce the amount that you are taking for awhile. You could even alternate one red one day and one green the next day to slow down the detox reaction. Then, gradually work up to the regular dose. Good luck!

I talked to the PA who recommended Juice Plus and ended up asking her if I could use ALIVE by Nature's Way instead. I gave her the product and she read off the ingredients. She gave me the A-ok on it instead of having to spend three times more on the Juice Plus.

ALIVE is 10 dollars per month from Vitacost. A bottle gives you two months worth, so 20 bucks plus shipping.

Anyway, Juice Plus is highly recommended, but I don't know much about it aside from it's condensed nutritional/antioxidant aspect.

its a detox reaction.

theres no way it would make en entirely healthy individual feel ill for no apparent reason.

its the only one of its kind with clinical randomized double blinded trials...

its worth the $$

ive not tried MBs suggestion, but i just might because 40 bones a month for JP is a bit much...

it sometimes worsens my HA or joint pain, but its due to lyme, not JP.

its an awesome product and the ingredients are only things the body wants, not vice versa.

hope u find one that works for u

i chose JP because of the impressive data on its benefits.

derek

huh, this is interesting.

I started taking it before i knew anything about LD; i was hoping it would help my symptoms.

I started having extremely sharp pains in the left side of my neck, down to my collar bone.

i began having a hard time walking any distance and going upstairs became extremely difficult.

mind you at this time, i was in fantastic shape, working out, doing weights and cardio 5 days a week.

so, i stopped taking them ... never thought about it again.

I think we should figure out what's going on with this. Start asking your health care providers questions. Call the company and ask them questions too. Any of you who use the product, this would be a worthwhile project, then report back here.

Let's find out "exactly" what is in this product. I want to know every molecule.

I've become very sensitive to Nightshades.
Veggie Splash tastes great -- but makes me feel awful. They use tomates to mask the greens. Tastes like a spicey V-8.

Looks like tomatoes to me. Sorry.

Nightshades like Potatos and Tomatoes have steroid alkaloids that can cause havoc neurologicaly.

Juice Plus uses tomatoes.
ALIVE doesn't appear to use tomatoes.
Veggie Splash uses tomatoes - makes me feel awful.

I have heard of people not taking it because they could not handle it.

Why? I do not know.

it is so tricky with this trying to figure out if it is the product or something else: herx, detox, etc. etc.

I usually give something a try 3 different times.

I will stop it for a while and then start up again.

If I feel worse on it after the 3rd try I will stop it unless the feeling worse is a good thing ...ie detoxing or doing its job with killing something off.

then I lower the dosage so I can handle it.

Bringing this thread back up. I had a friend recently start taking Juice Plus and it is making her feel HORRIBLE. She was trying to figure out if it is a healing reaction, or just bad Juice Plus side effect that hits Lyme sufferers? Any new updates on this from people who have used it?

Has anyone pushed through the "feeling bad" and ended up in a better place?

These types of products are the worst possible way to get those minerals. I would recommend instead you buy a Nutribullet or Ninja and crush any fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables you buy into a liquid. I use skim milk but 100 times better than these chemically artitifcial mixes

Have her look into Salicylate Sensitivity. She could be sensitive to them and is getting high doses. Juicing would do the same thing.

BryanRosner1 asks:

" . . . Has anyone pushed through the "feeling bad" and ended up in a better place? "

Sure did not happen for me. I tried with this and I tried with other things and - finally - learned my lesson.

IMO, there is never a time to push through and accept pain or discomfort with ANY food, or ANY nutrient.

If it makes one feel bad, geez, find something that makes you feel good.

Food / nutrients should make us feel better & nourished. Food has to work for us or - well, it just doesn't and it needs to go.

Also, real food is most often the better option over processed concentrated stuff that has a dozens of other foods ingredients in it but also leaves out so many of the important elements of real food, itself.

Sometimes, it can be the very hit of so many different food bits in one thing that is just too much for our bodies to manage.

And, if salicylates are an issue at LymeToo is wise to suggest, too many different food imprints at once, all concentrated like that, are bound to cause problems.

Whereas, eating one of the foods may be just fine as that would be the way nature intended. But try one food at a time, not dozens.

Whole food is best, in a normal serving (juicing can be just far too much and clobber the glucose systems), not just parts of it macerated and separated out in a processing facility.

As for a concentrated nutrients from actual food, Chlorella &/or Spirulina might be better managed, starting with a small amount of either one or the other.

Whole food, itself, will help the body in many ways to better function regarding its ability to help metabolize and push out toxic waste matter.

Just whole, real food does that. For those going through lyme / treatment, the liver may need more help yet, IMO, its still best to keep food to normal servings and vast choice for meals / snacks.

Where additional nutrient or liver support is needed to better support detoxification, in addition to chlorella / spirulina:

If you get twitching at/near your eye(s), stop.

I use Garden Veggies from Nature's Way (no twitching yet and cheaper). Whole food is better...

Never used pills made with fruits--any sweetness makes me worse/palpitations worse too.

Straight carrot juice can give a rush feeling--possibly the glucose issue mentioned.

Update: when I checked reviews online 5+ years ago for Juice Plus, someone said that product can cause eyelid/area twitching.

I got the twitching on Juice Plus Veggies back then, now it happened with Garden Veggies too after a few months this year, stopped them and the twitching stopped in a week or so.
