I went to my Lyme doc today and when I stood on the scale i couldn't believe my eyes!

I weighed 210lbs 6 weeks ago and now I weigh 190lbs!

Whats wierd is I have been eating the same amount as normal.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the Mepron is flushing all the "crap" out of me?

Anyways just thought it was crazy...

I lost weight on mepron too.

Started at about 115 when I went on mepron.

I weighed in at 94lbs last November.

I am 5'7.

My LLMD took me off the yeast diet and put me on periactin.

He was very concerned.

I've managed to put 11 lbs back on.

Now I am 105 lbs.

This is my wight prior to children.

I've always been thin, so this is normal for me.

I never thought of it so much the mepron as a possible

Herx from babesia as one of the symptoms is anorexia.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Hugs,

Geneal

No, don't be concerned until you are "out of range" for your height.

I wish I could loose some weight!!

I wasn't, but my family was.

Just keep track of your weight.

It isn't good to lose too much too fast.

I was temporarily in size 1 jeans.

Sigh.

Not complaining to be in a 3, but that was a waste of money.

If your LLMD was concerned, don't you think he would

Have talked to you about it?

Mine did.

Hugs,

Geneal

Geneal:

I suppose your right. He did seem a bit shocked by it.

I don't mind losing the weight as long as I don't get to thin! Thanks again!

I am losing a ton of weight too. Each time I am weighted, I have dropped even more. I think it is the Babesia and Mepron for me on top of yeast and digestion issues. I seem to drop weight when I am flaring or herxing badly.

I am 5'9" and down to 120. My ribs are showing at this point so I really need to put weight on.

Geneal you sound a lot like me.

Babesia can definitely cause weight loss. Not always a good thing. Try the whole lemon/olive oil drink from: http://www.keephopealive.org/report11.html

1. Cut up one medium lemon into quarters. This includes the rind and seeds. Place in a blender. Note: For a less bitter drink, squeeze the juice of a whole lemon and use the rind of 1/2 lemon.

2. Add 1 and 1/2 cups of orange juice or other fruit juice or water.

3. Add one tablespoon of cold pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil (from your health food store). Brands reported beneficial - Spectrum, Sapio, Montolive. Only the Bertolli brand has been reported not to work. One person reported the Pompeian brand sold in grocery stores gave good results.

4. Blend at high speed for 2 minutes.

5. For a smooth drink, pour mixture through a strainer to separate the juice from the pulp. Discard the pulp. (Use a screen type strainer - available from your local hardware store. Screen type means it looks like window screen). Note: a few people drink the mixture, pulp and all, without passing it through a strainer. If you can tolerate the taste and texture, that is fine.

The remaining liquid may be consumed all at once or divided into 2 or 3 daily portions.

This recipe was originally and successfully used for AIDS patients with weight loss.

Parisa:

Wish I could try the drink, but I'm on a lot of orals that prohibit me from having any citrus.

It stinks because I really did love orange juice. My wife made me a salad with some olive oil and lemon juice and boy was I sick!

Thanks for the help though!

Yeah LOL!!! It's wierd because I was always gaining weight with the Chronic Lyme and Bart.

Now that I have the Babs I'm losing at a fast rate. Not to mention I go to the bathroom 50

times a day! just kidding, but I do go a lot!

I think its definatley the Babs/Mepron!

Kreynolds, something is not quite right, but it may be getter better rather than worse. You could have been holding a lot of extracellular fluid and now are starting to normalize (would partially explain the increased bathroom trips). Did your sodium/potassium intake change a lot recently?

20lbs/6wks is a lot for a constant diet. If that loss is mostly dry weight, that means a caloric deficit of about 1600 kcal a day - you would probably notice that for sure.

Did you MD order creatinine/BUN or TSH/T3/T4 bloodwork? If you are loosing water and some fat, that is good - if you are getting excessive muscle catabolism, that is not so good.

No my sodium/potassium intake didn't change a lot at all.

He hasn't ordered that bloodwork. Although I do get weekly blood draws and I don't know if that bloodwork is in there.

I saw him yesterday and he didn't seemed concerned. Should I ask for the bloodwork?

I would say that if you are not feeling worse and your MD was not concerned, then you probably are in no danger - you have to trust the doctor more than somebody on the Internet.

If the weight loss continues at the same rate as you get to the pre-Lyme 175 mark you would want to call the MD and voice your concern.

My experience with doctors is that asking for specifics gets them defensive, steering them towards what you think is most troubling gets better results.

Periactin made a huge difference for me.

Except that I ate till I felt my stomach would burst!

I am maintianing a svelte 105, but have put some cushion back on.

Hugs,

Geneal

Mepron is used to treat babesia.

So is malarone.

Periactin is a Rx antihistimine that often has a side effect

That causes an increase in appetite.

Hugs,

Geneal
