It could be TMJ (temporomandibular joint) problems. This is common with Lyme. In mild form it causes jaw clicking and occasional locking that may feel like dislocation.
If ignored long enough the jaw can lock shut. When my jaw locked I had to take McDonalds hamburgers apart to eat them.
Your dentist or a TMJ specialist can create a custom mouth piece that can take care of it.

The few people with Lyme I met were originally misdiagnosed as "lock jaw" ... and the people were hospitalized for it. Later found out it was Lyme.
That was in the early 1980's. Haven't heard that misdiagnosis used much since then.. only a few times here and there.

Someone I am in contact with, has been tentatively diagnosed with Lyme "exposure" due to WB score. I have some doubts, but she has many symptoms of biotoxin illness, and lock jaw for 2 years. I am just worried about a spirochete which carries tetanospas and tetanolysin producing plasmid. That would elevate my concerns about possible recombinant strains of BB. [not impossible] I will have more info on this later this month.

Yes, I got it. Fortunately I was able to eat (some people get totally locked shut). It was a bit painful, mainly a constant headache but Advil took care of it. It started to lessen about a week after I got my mouthpiece and I was back to normal in a few months.

Good to know. Glad that cleared up. It seems to be toxin related. This person I am in contact with has had it for 2 years.

Who would think this is related to some biotoxin illness and not Lyme .. since you said..

Oh. Well, it is just my personal opinion based on the western blot results and her symptoms. Plus, the wb is biased toward borrelia burgdorferi antigens. I intend to view "Lyme disease" in it's literal definition to prevent confusion with other forms, which I believe are "undetermined" stains. The fact that some people contract "Lyme" in lateral fashion has me suspicious. And the fact it is one of the fastest growing chronic diseases phenomenon going, there has to be more to it.
I think "tick borne disease" to describe Lyme will be an outdated term soon enough. So, I will still look for spirochetes, but keep an open mind about looking for other microbial agents which produce toxins. The person scored positive on lane 31 {IgG} which is surface antigen [not good enough IMO] 66 {both scores} another common cross reactive antigen, high kDa 18++ in IgG only, and 41+ in IgG IND 41 in IgM, and INDfor both 23-25 & 83-93. It looks more like an exposure reading, but the person is full blown symptomatic and quite young.

Lock jaw is associated with tetanus, right?
TMJ syndrome usually involves some pain where the jaw
Connects to the skull. Popping sounds of bone on bone.
TMJ can be severe. I had it for a while due to
Over correction of my teeth by an orthodontist.
Two years of lock jaw?
Wow.

Geneal asked: " 'Lock jaw' is associated with tetanus, right?"
Yes. "Lock Jaw" is the common term used for tetanus because that's the first symptom it causes.
As much as a locked jaw from TMJ may be painful, etc. "lock jaw" truly locks the jaw and even paralyzes the voice - and makes swallowing and breathing very difficult. And this is just the beginning of the paralysis problems with "lock jaw."
I had a case of "lock jaw" after a tetanus booster shot on April's Fool Day over 20 years ago.
If you use the term around any kind of doctor, they will be thinking tetanus.
From Wiki:
Lockjaw can refer to any of the following:
trismus, a pathological condition in which the mouth is held shut by sustained spasm of the masseter (jaw) muscle, often observed in cases of tetanus
tetanus, an infectious disease of the central nervous system
=======
Now, all that said, I can see that lyme might indeed cause a "lock jaw" reaction that could mimic tetanus as both are very toxic infections of the nervous system. I think some researchers are just at the tip of the iceberg regarding the various toxins from tick-borne infections.
microw,
I wish your friend much luck. I hope she has an excellent LLMD. BTW, I think I recall reading about how, in some cases, tetanus can be a lower level infection and become chronic. I don't have an article to back that up but I think I read that in my search after my booster shot went so very wrong.

Keebler. Yes, that was my first impression. The "person" in question, told me that she was never tested for tetanus. I can't see why they wouldn't. {P} must be wrong. Anyway, {P} has multiple symptoms including tremors, and crawling sensations in skin. These are obviously neurological. {P} also has anxiety and bad 'bouts of depression and despair. These are all typical Lyme symptoms, but I don't want to rule out other spirochetes, bacteria etc. {P} has not responded to antibiotics, and has chronic sinus infection. There are a few things that have me instinctually pondering other causes. I'm not ruling out BB, but this could be a potential opportunity to find out what else could be causing typical Lyme symptoms.
