Hello all,

First post. My wife Mary has Lyme as well as my 23yo daughter. Her Lyme doc said she has thickened blood, and she feels it. She recommended seeing a good hematologist to rule out lymphoma, leukemia and DIC.

Can anyone suggest such a doc? Also, hints as to an appropriate supplement/med regimen. We are in Vermont, but will travel anywhere. Symptoms are getting worse weekly, and she is scared.

Many thanks for any info,
John DeCicco (dad)

Hi John, and welcome. Thank you for being there for your wife and daughter - they are very lucky to have you caring for them. I'm sorry you are all having to deal with this, but glad to hear they have an LLMD.

Just a suggestion that might get you quicker response and a larger number of responders is to maybe change your title to mention you are in VT area and need a good Hematologist, willing to travel. And you might want to post this also in the Seeking a Doctor forum:
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/forum/2

Just some ideas - since this board is a busy one and people only have energy to read and reply to so many threads per day.

Hypercoagulation seems to be a common symptom for many with Lyme and coinfections, perhaps due to chronic inflammation, and I have read that Lyme does something that creates buildup of fibrinogen, but right now I am too brain-fogged to recall specifics.

I have very high hypercoag numbers, but as yet have not treated them, my doctor wanted me to take Heparin shots, and I managed to talk him into letting me try the antibiotic only approach first to see if it went down naturally.

I also have Wobenzyme on hand to try once I feel up to it - anticoagulation treatment can help boost antibiotic action, and your own immune system, so herxing can worsen - I am one of those people that is so sick I can't handle anythign but the mildest treatment at the moment.

I would recommend looking for that Hematologist to rule those things out, and depending on their evaluation they will likely have their own professional opinion about how to treat.

Heparin seems to be the big guns and if she is in dangerous numbers that might be what they want to Rx for a while anyway.

I wish you all the best of luck. There are many caring and helpful people here, and lots of great info resources.

Fish or Krill Oil, Turmeric,Ginger all slightly thin the blood or make it more slippery. I do not know to what degree, but I use low doses of all three and it does not cause any problems. I also have taken 3000 mg a day of each with no problems.
