I took it for 2 months for the cyst form of lyme and got rid of my lyme.
Years before lyme, I was prescribed it by a doctor overseas for travelers' diarhea and it worked great then too!
This is what Burrascano says about it (p.15):
Important precautions: 1. Pregnancy while on Flagyl is not advised, as there is a risk of birth defects. 2. No alcohol consumption! A severe, "Antabuse" reaction will occur, consisting of severe nausea, flushing, headache, and other symptoms. 3. Yeast overgrowth is especially common. A strict anti-yeast regimen must be followed. 4. Flagyl can be irritative to the nervous system- in the short term, it may cause irritability, "spacey" feelings, etc. Longer term, it can affect the peripheral nerves, causing tingles, numbness, etc. If mild, a change in dose may be required. Often, extra vitamin B can clear these symptoms. If the nerve symptoms persist or are strong, then metronidazole must be discontinued or these symptoms may become very long lasting. 5. Strong Herxheimer-like reactions are seen in almost everyone.
So, Dr. B. tells you what to do to clear the symptoms, if they start to occur.

I took Flagyl briefly many years ago.
It gave me transient global amnesia--meaning I found myself sitting on a stool in a building, holding something in my hand, and had no idea at all who I was, what I was doing, what I had in my hand, what I was supposed to do......
It truly took some time to figure it out!!!!!
Needless to say, I never took another one of those pills!!
LOL!
Best,

I know that every time I would start a new medication, I would plug it in on Lymenet and read as much first hand information that I could on it.
As with any antibiotic, there are always side effects and although they may affect one person, they don't the next.
I too was on Flagyl (IV for me) for a few months and had no problem with it at all, but I know that it's always worrisome for all of us when we start a new medication.
I have found that quite often you have to try it yourself and see how your own particular body responds to it.
If you decide you don't want to try it, I wouldn't hesitate to talk to your LLMD about other possibilities.
Good luck and hope things work out for you.

Flagyl did not make me feel sick. It did increase my brain fog a lot, and I had a few scary severe brain fog moments.
I think it hit my babesia within minutes, because minutes after the first dose, my left arm got weak and heavy, which my LLMD said can be a babesia symptom. He said Lyme will not respond that quickly to medication. I continue to have that symptom 4 months later, 3 months after stopping Flagyl. (Which may be a good thing--maybe Flagyl got the babesia out of hiding)--just an unscientific guess on my part.

Dose anyone know if flagyl can be taken with quinalones??
I am due to start Factive soon and I also may be changing over to flagyl from plaquinil along with the IV Ricephin.
Thanks Neil
