I haven't been on LymeNet much in the past few months. I've been sick since Oct 2007, but lately my symptoms decreased so much, I was living a practically completely normal life! It's been nice to not think about lyme constantly and to not feel on the verge of dying all the time.
It's been great! My lasting symptom is neurological - I still mess up my speech and don't think clearly.
The best part has probably been the lifting of my dark/suicidal depression. I feel happy and can think straight and am not a bundle of anxiety!
Progress to this point has been SLOW and STEADY. Very gradual decrease in pain, fatigue, anxiety, etc. There has been no miracle cure - just lots of oral abx. And malarone.
Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, I had an allergic reaction and stopped all abx. Within a week, the fatigue and pains were coming back and my speech problems increased. Worse still, I am having trouble breathing - grrr. I will be so sad if I still have babesia after 7 mos of treatment.
I'm getting back on abx ASAP and putting a stop to the decline.
I wanted to write to share the hope that everyone can progress at least as much as I have. And thank you all for being there with all the support and help that this community offers! You have been so crucial to my healing and learning to take care of myself and not give up.

So happy for you. Sounds like you just have that last mile to go.
I treated babesia for nearly 1 year and got rid of it.

Jeez, it sucks to think that we can relapse that fast though. I hope you can continue your steady progress.

Just a quick note, 'backin'... I was on orals for 6 months, stopped to attend to gut issues which were mostly resolved, but started to slide back w/ neuro probs after a couple weeks.
So, back onto abx, a switch in protocol the following month, a bunch more improvement & then stopped all abx after ~15 months. Just the herbs & supps.
And you know what? No relapse. Busy at the gym & taking immune support, but haven't ever have the chest pain, exhaustion & brain fog ever since. Minor issues, yes, but I'm whittling at 'em. (Essentially symptom-free during the day.)
So, it IS possible- for most I think, anyway- to wean off the abx w/o sliding back into the hole. I did along w/ many others....many of whom are no longer here. (I'm just here chipping in w/ advice where I feel qualified.)
P.S: Glad to hear of your progress. Ever though of changing your handle to 'outoftherain' now? Posts: 1233 | From Dover, NH | Registered: Sep 2008

Isn't 'normal' great? I recall the first time I had a 'normal' moment and was blown away. You know it when you see it and you almost pinch yourself so you don't jinx it.
My normal has lasted 4 1/2 years now. Wishing you the same and more!!

Thank you so much for this moment of uplift, backintherain. Though you backslid, I have seen that as the norm for anyone who hasn't treated completely (a few months past the removal of all symptoms).
It sounds to me like you are well on your way to a full remission, and I wish you good luck!
Thank you again - if all the people who reached remission were still here and posting, I feel that those that were sick (newly diagnosed and others) would be easily drowned out. There have been SO many people that reached remission and went on about their lives.
It's great to hear the good stories to remind us of this.
