Ive been on Rocephin for almost three months over the past six months. Ive heard how effective it is but also how it can worsen Lyme by turming spirochetes into cysts and is used with a cyst buster simultaneously. My question is as Minocin does get into the BBB as well as Doxy what are your thoughts about a Doxy/Azithro combo with plaquenil in place of Rocephin. I mentioned ceftin as this drug also causes conversion to cyst form but at a lesser rate because it's not as potent as the IV, a ceftin/azithro/plaquenil for Lyme.

I forgot to mention as I would like to swim and take
many hot showers its difficult having a PICC line in me while on IV. In coming to a decision Im waying what I can do on my own in place of the heavy Rocephin, like Baths, swims and questioning the slow and consistent vs, the fast roller coaster ride that comes with Rocephin.

Ceftin is just the same as Rocephin. I don't have an opinion on the combos. I'm not good at that!! [Smile]

You mean ceftriaxone? Ceftin is the oral vs the IV. Im trying to consider risks, gains/limits with the oral and IV on a whole.

OH .. well, that's a whole 'nuther question. You may want to change your topic to ORAL VS IV ..

I got well on orals after having had Lyme for 42 yrs undiagnosed. So they definitely work.

I am not exactly sure what your question is - ceftriaxone and cefuroxime are both cephalosporins and act only on Bb with a full cell wall. Doxy and azith are both protein synthesis inhibitors, working in a slightly different fashion.

I think for the most part, abx combinations with both a cell wall inhibitor (penicillin or cephalosporin typically) and multiple protein inhibitors are common, folate inhibitors are added sometimes also. Combinations like ceftin, doxy and rifampin or amoxicillin, biaxin and bactrim seem to be posted pretty often.
