Anyone know much about antibiotic called Factive. Doc prescribes one pill/ day for 5 days only for Bartonella treatment. Supposed to be preferred treatment over levoquin.
Only for 5 DAYS? Can't believe it. Anyone tried it and did it work for you?

I am due to start the same soon. He said 5 days on but I thought he meant 5 days a week. I did well on levaquin so this seems to be a logical choice for me.
I'll let you know.

I think it is long acting and will say in your system for awhile... thus the reason why only for 5 days. Makae sure you check with your doc about the frequency.

I'd read up on the risks of the quinolones before starting any of of them--these drugs can cause some downright horrible stuff!

I only got to take the first Factive pill and 5 or so hours later had an all over body rash so I had to quit.
Felt like a bad sunburn. Took about a week and a half to get rid of the rash.

Hey TS96, Had you been on other quinalones before this? If so ..how did you do on them? I did 2 months on Cipro and 6 months on levaquin with no problems.

Did your regiment of months on Cipro and 6 months on levaquin get rid of your bartonella? I am assuming you still have it since you want to try Factive.
did you Bart symptoms subside after cipro and levaquin?

The cipro was done early in rounds of 1 month at a time. I herxed like hell and the fog lifted and chronic fatigue disappeared after the second dose. I stopped treating it for a few months and all the Bart stuff started to return.
A year later I did the levaquin (from July 08 -Dec 08) Again most of my Bart symptoms resolved.
I am still at that plateau and I think I still have a bit more to go. Thats were the Factive comes in.
Quinalones are the absolute best in my case. You just can not stay on them indefinitely. Levaquin kind of bottomed out after 4 months.

I did 10 weeks of Factive for Bart. The first few doses seemed to do something, but it ended up not helping at all.
You only need to take it once per day. I know a few people for whom Factive worked great on their Bart. For others (like me) Levaquin was the answer. It sounds like some strains are hit by Factive, others by Levaquin.
I believe most LLMDs consider Levaquin to be the drug of choice for Bart/BLO.
My first dose of Levaquin gave me a massive Bart herx and it worked great for me. I was on Levaquin for 6 months. For the last 2-3 months of treatment, I was symptom free.
I stayed symptom free for months afterwards. At month six I had a full Bart relapse. The thing that is working for me now is the "My" rizol. (do a search if you don't know what that is)
I'm currently testing the "Healers Who Share" Bart remedies on myself to see how effective they are.

No I have not taken levequin or cipro ever so I don't know if I'd react to those.
Factive was just bad for me.
Rifampin has really knocked down Bart for me, 4 months now and still working.

I found Rifampin to be pretty effective with doxy. I did that for about 6 weeks. I also did Rifampin + Bactrim for a month.
I was climbing the walls on my first doses of Rifampin. Second round was not so harsh. Must have knocked the load down in the brain significantly.
This was all before the Levaquin. I think possibly some strains are partial to rifampin and others are partial to quinalones.
Of course there is no way to know for sure. If you have Bart you should try both if you can. We probably are infected by more than one strain.
