I am curious, as my son, who has been pretty close to symptom-free for quite some time now, came down with a "flu-like virus" last weekend.

He ran a fever for two days, then on day three, he said that his feet hurt and he couldn't walk on them, and that his legs (apparantly from the knee down) were hurting as well.

This lasted for 2 days, then he was tired for the rest of the week, and then today, he was energetic again, but he came home saying that he didn't feel the way he should be feeling.

When I asked in what way, he said that he felt sad, but that there was no reason for him to be sad.

To the best of my knowledge, he hasn't been bit again, (what ever he had seems to be contagious as his brother is now sick and I've been wiped out all week as well) so I have to wonder if a flu/cold/virus or whatever can bring out the lyme/co symptoms.

Thanks everyone!
kp

I would say YES!!! Anything that brings our bodies "down" will allow our immune systems to take a hit and the Lyme symptoms will come out too.

However, his symptoms sound like the flu to me. I get depressed when I'm sick too... or is that the Lyme too??!!

am I making any sense here??? [bonk]

Glad your young one is feeling better now!! [Smile]

Lymetoo,

Yes you make sense, although I've never seen a person walking on their toes because their feet hurt too much from the flu. That symptom was the one that really felt lymey to me!!

And yes, I will admit to being a paranoid, neurotic, overly protective mommy. (I'm ok with it, in fact I think it's good, most of the time!)

Take care,
kp

I would call your LLMD. The flu could trigger symptoms to reappear .... but doesn't diminish that the symptoms need to be addressed. Feet hurting isn't the flu.

The flu when it is going around often depletes me and my anxiety then kicks in.

I would make sure you call your sons MD.

Yep, relapses occurred with me during high fever times. He needs to be treated again to bring down his symptoms.

Good luck.

Tylenol use to deplete my iron levels and kick in my anxiety when I had the flu as well.

Thanks for your responses guys.

He seems to be feeling bit better, is sweating up a storm every night though. He is still in tx for lyme&co, as he hadn't quite reached that symptom-free state that we've been dreaming of.

I'll let the LLMD know that we had some sx breakthrough with the flu.

So, I have to wonder, will this be the way that it always is? lyme always lurking, ready to make unwanted guest appearances with every cold, flu or injury...

Take care,
kp

Hi lymemommy,

Glad you are seeing progress with your son, but sorry to hear the symptoms are popping up again. To me it sounds like lyme and co but that's just my non-medical opinion. If he still has a few symptoms once in a while, then you know it's still there.

Dr. J told me that he CURES children, so my guess it that once they are symptom free for about 2 months...it should be gone for good. I'm choosing to believe him on this!

I know relapses do happen, but I think if you stick with treatment long enough, you can get rid of it (at least in children).
