Well....it's been about 7 weeks since having to go off of abx because of the elevated liver enzymes.
I just got my latest test results from my GP and they are still over 200 (ALT).
He asks how I am feeling and I say fine, and then he asks again and says "how are you really feeling" and so I stupidly tell him "not so good". My muscles ache EVERY DAY...for no reason, I feel like other sx are creeping back because of how long I have gone without abx.
So he starts light heartedly giving me the risk vs benefit lecture and how I really NEED my liver...which, thanks I know that!
I also know that the only way that I have ever felt "normal" since becoming sick is when I have been on abx.
Yeah, a GREAT position to be in! Need abx to function and need your liver to function also.
Sorry, I am really feeling the blow of this one today. I am wondering if I really will ever get to be on abx again?
3 weeks to drop less than 25 points...gee it could take 6 MORE months to get it back to what it was originally!!
He made jokes about letting my LLMD ruin my liver...hey at least he was trying to help me. I knew there were risks. I DON'T blame my LLMD.
He did want me to get another MRI to see if there has or hasn't been any more "deterioration" of my brain...YEAH...then he asked when my last lumbar puncture was.
Oh, somehow he forgot to tell me how "good" I looked...maybe it's this horrendous rash I have going on that he won't treat because of my liver??
Okay, sorry for the rant. I just know not too many people understand what having this stupid freaking disease is like and what we have to deal with!!
You know, it's ironic that the same doctors that DON'T recognize that its lyme and allow it to get to a late stage are the ones that like to lecture us later about risk vs. benefit! NICE
Thank for listening, I know there aren't any "magic" words of wisdom for me. It's just going to be a long 6 more weeks until my next blood test.

Well if there is divine retribution he may have to suffer Lyme in purgatory for a few decades.
I'm agnostic, but I'm hoping!

Oh, soonermom, you did not need that!
And how dare he make jokes about your LLMD and your liver.
I am angry for you.

Are you taking liver support supplements? If the ones you are using are not doing the job, there are dozens of other choices.
I'm not talking about "detox" but about support so that your liver can do its job better - and some of these supplements can actually help protect the liver from the medicines.
NAC is the first choice. Milk thistle can be good and is the common choice but others may work better for certain individuals.
Acupuncture treatments, too, can be a huge help.
I gathered all this some time ago. Hope there is something of value in it for you:
===========
Here are some articles with ideas beyond milk thistle:
. . . Individual variations in our cytochrome P40 enzymes help to demystify why there are so many variations in how we respond to drugs and herbs. . . .
- Full chapter at link above.
===================
There are hundreds of herbs that can help liver function. A couple dozen are discussed here:
The important thing to remember is that the liver is a hot (metabolically active) organ, and so tends to get congested and inflamed.
. . .
Protection
Turmeric root, wheat sprouts, schisandra berries, amla fruit, beet root and milk thistle seed are among the major sources of protective anti-oxidants for the liver cells, as are fruits that contain flavonoids, especially citrus fruits.
These should be used to prevent development of inflammatory disease, or for damage protection as in the case of persons taking strong chemical drugs or undergoing chemotherapy.
Deficiency
The liver can become weakened and deficient. If this is not corrected, it can lead to liver atrophy and depletion of glycogen stores, even hepatitis. Signs include fatigue, low blood pressure, hypoglycemia, dry eyes, headache, heat symptoms and irritability . . . .
Heat and Inflammation
To remove excess liver inflammation with heat signs or toxins . . . .
. . .
Pain
If there is liver inflammation with signs of pain and tension, use herbs that calm the liver and move the blood . . . .
If milk thistle is not on your plan, NAC might be considered:
This, from a protocol for Chlamydia Pneumonia (Cpn) which is a similar chronic stealth infection. This treatment protocol is also similar to that of chronic lyme.
This is what one of the protocol authors says about the power of NAC to help protet the liver:
. . . "Surprisingly, the only anti-chlamydial agent that did not cause hepatitis in some patients was NAC. In fact, NAC is recognized as being protective.
See attached references.
My conclusion is that NAC should be the first agent in an anti-chlamydial regimen and should be a constant part of the therapy for this protective effect, not to mention it's effect against elementary bodies.
I am currently on ALA NAC and milk thistle. The milk thistle caused pain for me at the maximum dose, so I cut the dose in half. Maybe I am a freak, but I couldn't eat normally while taking it. I never have stomach issues either.
I will definitely look into the schizandra at first and a rife machine (pm me if you have any recommendations).
I guess I can always hope for that lyme purgatory.
