and then looked at the comments, particularly Bobcat's?
What if people test positive for babesia, treat for it with Mepron, and don't respond? Then try malarone with artemesinin, and do respond?
AND/OR:
what if they are told they have bartonella/BLO, and treat with Rifampin/Cipro/Levaquin and don't respond? And then try Zithromax with Plaquenil or Bactrim and do respond?

This is very interesting! The exact same thing is happening to me (as bobcat's comment)
I have tested positive for babesia duncani and not responded to any other drug combination except art, malarone and bactrim. I've tried lots of different combos, when I switch all my symptoms come back (it takes about 3 months) and I end up back on bactrim. It makes me feel better after taking 1 dose.
Unfortunately I have not been unable to completely get rid of what ever it is I have and be 100% symptom free, I've been trying now for almost 2 years.
I'm not sure if it is because I keep trying new combos and keep relapsing because I'm not giving it enough time to work (the longest I've been on it straight is 4 or 5 months) but now I'm staying on it for the long haul and work on boosting up my immune system. Hopefully it will work.

jmo,
Did you take Zithromax or Biaxin with the Malarone? I know they say you should take one of those with Mepron, so some people will do the same with Malarone.
I am currently on Malarone and wondering if at some point I could either drop my Biaxin or pulse it, to give my body a break since I don't detox well.
I'm think of maybe doing Malarone all the time, and then pulsing Bactrim some days and Biaxin other days. Then maybe also pulsing artemisinin.
I do seem to do pretty well on Malarone vs. Mepron, which I don't do well on.
I also did test positive for babesia duncani, like you.

I take Malarone 3x's a day, art 3x's a day (I pulse it) and Bactrim DS 2 x's a day, along with a slew of supplements.
Everyone is different but Mepron was such a waste for me and I learned the hard way!... if you feel better on malarone I would stay on it.
In my case I was able to tell fairly quickly that the malarone and bactrim worked, it greatly reduced my symptoms in 3 or 4 days and that seems to be the case every time I go back to it... it's night and day for me.
I have no idea why and my doctor doesn't seem to know why either, much like the blog post.
This time however instead of trying to figure it out by messing with combos and dosages, trying to "throw curve balls at it" we are going stay this course.
You could try just the malarone and bactrim for a few days or a week to see if it helps? I waited a few months before I added in Art.
Alv your mailbox is full.

Thank you, jmo.
I have one more question if you don't mind.
Do you make sure to take a lot of fat with your Malarone?
I can't decide if it's really that important or not.
Thanks!!!!

Well, then it's something else!
We don't have enough research on any of this to be definitive on anything...just...hunt and peck!

I haven't been here in awhile and I just got caught up with reading about the "mystery bug". Thank you for mentioning it... it's interesting. There was a lot of information there and I think I read that this protozoan won't become resistant to medicine... this would be good, because doctor's wouldn't keep changing combos causing a relapse or backslide.
It could explain why I have such positive results with the bactrim, malarone and art combo and why I also had positive results with humaworm. I'm going on my 3rd month here and haven't gotten to back to where I was before my "relapse". I will post when I've been on it for long term and let everyone know how it turned out.
I haven't gotten a slide taken. I got the babesia duncani PCR done at Igenex and it came back reactive at 1:640.
Hoosiers51- Sometimes I try to take malarone with fat but I'm not good at it. I haven't noticed a difference either way.

i find this interesting. My PCP prescribed one dose of the liquid zithromax (2g time release)back in 2005.. all my symptoms increased..at the time were breathing issues, chest pressure, numb throat and tongue.....soon after my dizziness went away as did my head pressure. I have taken it since and havent had that strong of a reaction.
I also felt better on one pill of malarone a day, but was on that for only four months.
I test positive for the fry bug...IGM/IGG igenex positive for lyme and babesia Fish positive.
