My husband was prescribed hydroxy B12 shots, but I only read of people taking the methyl B12 shots.

Some people will do better on hydroxy than methyl--depending on genetics and how well the methylation cycle works. Hydroxy actually "mops up" the methyl. This can be a good thing if the methyl form makes you hyper.
The methyl is good if you want to address mylenation.
He should ask his doc the reasoning for the hydroxy.

Just wanted to add that some people are genetically predisposed to having a hard time dumping sulphur from their bodies -- an issue, as hoot says, with the methylation cycle. This is another reason the hydroxy form (does not contribute to methylation pathway problems) is used instead of the methyl form.
