Just wondering if anyone has tried Bowen Massage?

I seem to suffer for days after going for a massage, and a friend suggested I try Bowen.

I need something, but the after-effects usually aren't worth it.

I used Bowen therapy in my pre-Lyme days for back pain. It's very gentle, not at all like a deep-tissue, Swedish, or other "typical" massage.

Indeed, the therapist's touch was so gentle and light that I thought, "How on earth will this help?" But after each session I did feel better.

So it could be worth at least a try for you!

try a VERY GOOD AND EXPERIENCED craniosacral therapist or cranio osetopath.
not necessarily an lmt who's taken a few courses, either, but a specialist with many years experience.
check ihap.com for listings or upledger institute

My chiropractor does some Bowen technique on me as part of my adjustments.

He works on the places where I have the most pain, and it's very effective when and where nothing else has worked. I've had significant improvement in my low back and neck.

The Bowen does actually hurt, for me, but the immediate improvement is worth it. I find I don't tighten up after the Bowen, like I sometimes do with my other massages.

Of course, drinking plenty of water and taking it easy the day of and the next, is recommended, plus mineral replacement, if that works for you.

Hi, I was in 1st AMA research project. Little more to this story.
After 3rd treatment & leaving out rolling over occipital nerve area, I had 2 months, I never though would see after thousands & thousands of dollars & more docs. can Count.
I went in as total sceptic not to get placebo effect. 1st to tries were tuff, too long story.
Third time was charm.
Did not last but I am still grateful I had someone I might known once back.

I had tried it all acupuncture,new age stuff,chiros,many docs, VIT C IV`s++++++.
Many times a guinea pig some very traumatic.

There was not 1 of us 10 that did not benefit. You need the right person, which is hard, Dr. Whitaker had it down.
If you find the person with perfect roll over touch & where you may have found something.

My only regret was I worked painted, caught up on all stuff around home.
Thinking it would last.
Should went out USED that en-gerny for fun.
New was not well but out of everything, we all had good results. Written up in AMA.

Take care, make sure you get right person or can hurt in end more.
Your bod. will tell you in few hrs.
Hugggsss, To ALL in Need, Good Luck

Hubby had one Bowen massage once with Dr W in Florida -- the former head of the old Bowen lab. She is one of the ones who brought this massage technique to the U.S.

It backfired for hubby. He had the Heart Rate Variability test done before and after the massage. For him it made the test results worse. He had increased tremors and increased sound sensitivity and dizzyness. This type of massage is supposed to balance the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system.

At the time hubby was undiagnosed and very sick.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your responses.

I have my first LLMD appt in less than two weeks [Smile] so I'll check with him.

If he says to do it, I think I'll give it a try.

Okay, Bea and I were writing at the same time.

Maybe waiting a bit into treatment would be best, since I have heart issues right now.

Thanks!
