Anyone have congestion after they eat? I seem to a lot (and it's not due to milk or dairy products, because I haven't had dairy for over four or five years). I don't notice it ALL the time, but a lot of the time. What causes this? Anyone know? Is it normal?

i have noticed that i get stopped up and have breathing problems. doesn't matter what i eat either.
also when i go in a restaurant i start sneezing immediately after eating. i may sneeze as many as 7-10 times. it stopped when i leave the restaurant.
doc said it was some histamine response, but it only occurs in restaurants. go figure...

It is allergies for me. If I eat anything very often, I develop an allergy to it.
Taking digestive enzymes at a meal and between meals helps.

Dear Everyone, I get a runny nose a lot when I eat for no apparent reason. However, dyes are definitely an issue for me, and always have been. Strawberries still are. I feel stupid, because I realized recently I eat a lot of tomato products and I was allergic as a child. If I have not outgrown the allergy to strawberries, what are the chances I have not outgrown the tomato allergy either?
What a bummer! Maybe that is why the eczema never went away. I also react to dust, dustmites, mold, dog hair, rabbit hair, ragweed, certain trees and pollens. Allergy medications never do much for me. I have tried them all!

I used to get this. It's candida and resulting food allergies (ones you may not have had in the past).
My allergist had me do a food journal for a month and then did testing. And I was put on anti-fungals for 2 months.

Jin-I have the dreaded drippy nose when I eat. It is so attractive to be in a restaraunt eating with a kleenax continually going up to my nose, but I have no choice.
I also think it could be candida. I recently did a 2 week course of diflucan but still can't tell if it made a difference. My allergies have been so bad I've always got a stuffy, runny nose anyway!
Julie- what anti-fungal were you on for two months?

My allergist told me - any time you eat and end up with a runny nose, bloating or the runs, you've just eaten something you're allergic to. Conventional testing showed numerous mold allergies - nothing else.
However, if I eat pasta or anything with soy, I immediately have a stuffed nose for the next 30 minutes or so. So I've done my best to eliminate gluten and MSG from my diet. (but sometimes a piece of cake or semolina bread is just worth the stuffed nose, ya know??)
I too was told I had 'chronic sinusitus', that disappeared after 2 mos of Diflucan. My Allergist and ENT were stunned.

Dear blinkie, I know exactly what you mean! It really is awful, but you have no choice but to have tissues right there with you. You cannot have snot running all over the place. Due to having Celiac Disease, I never eat out since a microscopic amount of gluten makes me violently ill. Despite this, the runny nose still is irritating.
Dear lymeinhell, I wonder if cross-reactivity is an issue for me. I read where if you are allergic to ragweed, you should avoid eating celery and certain other foods. I feel stupid, because I always have been allergic to strawberries and dyes, and never outgrew it. Then I realized I eat tomatoes all of the time, and I probably am still allergic to those. This may explain why that eczema will not go away.
Gluten makes me terribly ill, and cross-contamination is difficult to avoid sharing a kitchen with two gluten eaters. I wish I were well and had my own place and could work. That would make things much easier. I do have some ideas to make things less stressful. Being organized will help a lot.
