I was diagnosed in August '08 with interstitial cystitis (bladder inflammation). I had two inflamed / ulcer type places on my bladder wall. Extremely painful!

A month or so ago, my Western Blott indicated I have Lyme disease. Apparently Lyme can really do a job on your bladder.

Visited Dr. C in Missouri week before last. Began taking doxy 100mg twice per day over a week ago. Herxed initially but overall feeling much better as far as shortness of breath, joint pain... However, my bladder pain (which had someone subsided before taking the doxy) is getting worse.

I have heard bi-cillen shots help the bladder. My next step in antibiotic treatment from Dr. C was claferan shots. Maybe I can stop taking the doxy and start bi-cillen or claferan shots first???

I am very concerned as my bladder has been very sesitive and was doing better. I am barely over 100lbs. and don't need to lose more weight.

Anyone else with bladder pain? What did your doctor prescribe to help the bladder? Seems to me that I need to treat the bladder before treating the Lyme.

Hello IC, the bladder is tricky. I have IC had use neurontin(which is used to help with the nerve pain that IC causes) Lyrica can be helpful too.

Medications that work directly on the bladder like Urelle(turn urine blue) pyridium(turn it orange) can also help during treatment.

Doxy can be tough on the bladder(i am ok with it) but I know others with IC that it hurts their bladder. There is a practitioner that feels that doxy stirs up bacteria in the IC bladder(i dont have any studies or scientific facts to support this)

I am barely over 96lbs now so I can relate to not wanting to loose anymore weight.

Are you seeing a urologist as well?

Ichelp73..
Ive had bladder/prostate problems for 10 years or so [on and off] numerous tests and Exray's done in that area.
never actually taken any conventional medication for it, just let it run its course until of course another flare up occurs.. its infuriating..

I was diagnosed with IC 3 years ago and I take Elmiron and Neurontin during painful flares.
At one time, the pain became so intense I was prescribed a Fentynal pain patch....would never use that again as I vomited everyday and was basically a human zombie.

IC - I am having the same issues with the Buhner protocol, even a touch of Cat's Claw set my bladder into a huge flare.

I'm questioning what to do. I can't take the excrutiating pain and I have chronic lyme, from being undiagnosed for so many years, so I don't know if I can handle being on herbs for life.

But then I also can't live life the way it's going right now since I keep getting worse. But I don't know if lyme is my only problem eaither or if I have CFS.

I have felt your pain!!! Several suggestions from fellow IC patients should help. You can also instill medications directly into your bladder.

I hope you're seeing a urologist who knows all about IC and its treatment.

The bicillin shots may be the way to go!

Yes, how long have you had Lyme?

You know about the IC diet, right?
