Hi all....

I have always traditionally taken Zithromax at 250mg twice per day, and even then sometimes I would get diarrhea from it when I was first starting it, but it usually faded.

Now my new LLMD has me on 500mg once daily for some reason. I just started it and getting this cramping.

I don't remember getting lower abdomen cramps from it before when I took it in the past (they are almost like menstrual cramps)...only the diarrhea/loose stools I mentioned which faded.

I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten this cramping from Zithromax.

When I am walking around out in public, it will hit me, almost the way menstrual cramps do when you move around too much. I am having loose stools today too, but the cramps don't signal that I need to go to the restroom, like you would think.

So, I am wondering if it is cramping as an early pregnancy symptom. I had cramping as a pregnancy symptom a week ago before I even knew I was pregnant, which was before I started the Zithro.

So I am trying to see if anyone has gotten this cramping from Zithro so when I see my OB this week I will be able to tell her if the pregnancy cramps are still there or not, which would be good for her to know.

I mean, I'll still tell her, but I just want to be able to tell her if it is common with Zith too, etc.

Hope this makes sense.....Thanks!

This has happened to me with Zith if I don't take it with food.

I hated Zith and couldn't state on it very long because my stomach did not agree with it and it gave me loose stools as well.... I had to take other medication in its place.

PS - it also gave me weird stomach twinges/cramps...

Well, today I woke up and it had been a full 24 hours since I had taken the Zith, and I actually woke up with the cramps.

So, I am thinking that they may be pregnancy cramps. (hard to know though of course) They are still mild however, so it still falls under the realm of "normal."

But, I am sure the loose stools are from the Zith. So maybe a little bit of the cramping could be.

So it looks like both the Zith and pregnancy are giving me symptoms.

Wonder if taking it twice a day in smaller doses instead of once would help the loose stools? I'm thinking probably it's all the same.

Zith gave me diarrhea, and bend over abdominal pain too. It might work with a full meal. Yogurt helped some.

My son just finished a 5 week course of zithromax for his lyme and bartonella which did absolutely nothing for his symptoms.

However, he is very constipated and had severe abdominal pain. He is taking laxatives now.

We are hoping he is not impacted.

I guess more folks get diarrhea, but this was not the case with my son.

I am on 600 mgs of zith every other day. The only thing that seems to help me with the cramping is a good probiotic.

I take proboulardi by metagenics. And if i run out of that I notice horrible cramping.

Does your lld have you on a probiotic?
