It might help. One concern though, is that we do not want to do anything that harshly boosts our immune system as those who have died from this swine flu have died due to their immune systems being on overdrive.

Oscillo. seems gentle enough support, though, and most homeopathics are intended to help balance the body systems. So, I think it's a good idea. I've taken it before and it really works if you take it at the first sign of something wrong.

And, there is also a different Oscillo that you take once a week during flu and cold season (muco coccinum) - then, with the main type, then, at the onset of symptoms.

Remember that many have gotten this and it's been very mild, just a day or so of not feeling too well.

===========

My ND suggests this once a week during cold and flu season (and then the oscillococcinum at the onset of any symptoms):

When I saw the list of symptoms for this flu, I realized that, for the most part I have had those every day for 20 years.

Other than the vomiting and diarrhea, it would be hard to know the difference. I've probably gone through a few bouts of various flu bugs just thinking I was having a worse week.

Be sure to get all your nutrients and good rest. Increasing vitamin C and allicin may be a good bet, in moderation.

Hi, Ip -

From what I've heard, fever is a definite symptom of this flu. Anything above 100 is considered `suspect'.

Hey, thanks Keebler - I wasn't aware of Mucco-coccinum.....

There are 27 reviews of the Oscillococcinum product at Vitacost....

http://tinyurl.com/c6263u

Will it work for this flu? No one can answer that. It is difficult to determine efficacy of any product - including vaccines - for any flu simply because not everyone will become ill from exposure.

Oscillo is listed in one of my books for `prevention' but no protocol is given. My understanding of the product is that you take it at the VERY first sign of a flu - if you wait too long, it probably won't work. You'll see what others say if you go to that Vitacost link. My book says `take within the first 24 hours' of onset of any symptoms. That's what Keebler said, too.

I've never used it - the only trace of a flu I've had in the past 3 years was BEFORE I got some Oscillo to have on hand. It was after that `flu' that I bought both the Influenzinum 200C and the Oscillo.

Oscillo is much more expensive than other homeopathic remedies. It is one of the few `proprietary' remedies with a trade name. It is a homeopathic dilution (200CK potency) made from extracts from the heart and liver of a specific kind of duck, but no one knows the exact `formula' except Boiron.

Hey, now you can say that you `have your ducks in a row', and it would be true.

[Big Grin]

(A little homeopathic humor there....)

I keep oscillo in my purse and take it the minute I feel a sore throat with spaciness coming on. I can't count how many bouts of "the crud" it has spared me, and I'm sure it wasn't the same bug each time.

Meaning that if sore throat and fever are part of this flu, there's a good chance that oscillo can help knock it back. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I heard on the news today that all flues originated from the digestive systems of water foul.

Some flues, like the current one, travel to another species, like swine or humans. Oscillo is a homeopathic made from the liver of ducks.

If you can believe in the power of homeopathics (I trust my life to them) it makes sense.

Combine Oscillo with some photons, and I imagine you have yourself a fairly dependable flu fighter.

I see that on the flu prevention thread, Sparkle posted Dr. K's suggestions to prevent (or treat) the flu, and Oscillo is on his list for treatment......

Bejoy, I'd never heard that about all flus originating from waterfowl. Makes perfect sense, though, as I'd always heard that it was the `microorganisms' in the duck organs that caused Oscillo to be categorized as a `nosode', rather than just an organ remedy.

LOL. [Smile]

I've been monitoring some comments about this new flu on a homeopathic blog, and several homeopaths and laypersons have mentioned that they use Oscillo. Here are a couple of quotes:

``Although other specific homeopathic medicines may also be effective in this regard, I believe from past experience that Oscillicoccinum is the best medicine for this application.''

``I even know of a doctor who suggests using Oscillo and claims that we really only need 1/4 of the vial to achieve results.'' [I happen to agree with this doc, by the way, and that's what I plan to do if I ever take it - take only about 1/4 to 1/2 of the vial instead of the whole thing.]

There are many comments about using the Influenzinum 200C as a preventative (or treatment), also. So, either preventative remedy is a good investment, IMHO.

well-i ended up taking it late-about the 10th day i was sick. i could not get mucous out of nose or lungs-was sneezing and coughing a lot and had sore throat. well that night my temp went up higher than it had been(99)-but normal for me is 95-96.

i got cold sweats and chills. it was a hard night . the next day i had more energy and started getting everything out...

i took it a second day and by the third day i was really, reallymuch better.

so for what ever bug i had it really worked

That's great news, Ip.... but I had no idea you were already sick! Very sorry, but glad you are feeling better. Be advised that this 2009 flu - whatever it might be named - tends towards relapse. So get back on the Oscillo right away if that happens.

I passed on your `report' (without using your name) to some homeopaths. Most have been under the impression that Oscillo won't do much good if taken after the first day or two, so this is helpful information. Thanks!

Would you be willing to comment more about the symptoms you experienced? I'd like to compare your symptoms to a couple of other recent flu cases, which may or may not be the H1N1 flu. It doesn't matter much - whatever flu is going around is what needs to be dealt with by patients and practitioners.

If you are willing, here are a few `reminders' of what you might want to include:

did it come on slowly or suddenly?
any changes in mental state and/or emotions? (i.e., anxiety, irritability, depression)
were you thirsty or thirstless?
were you hungry or disinterested in food?
general chilliness or hot?
sweats, chills (you already mentioned those)?
fever throughout illness?
sore throat (you mentioned that, too)?
describe any back or body pains?
any skin symptoms?
GI issues (stomach or abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea)?
severe weakness or fatigue?
cough?
anything that made your symptoms better or worse?(i.e., worse at night, better warm bathing, worse from noise or light, etc.)

By the way, 3 homeopathic remedies are being reported from Mexico as successful for treating the `swine flu', and one of them is Oscillococcinum. (I hope to post about some of that here at LN, if I ever find the time.)

Thanks, Ip. Glad you are better.

this is what happened:

sat-i was well, all day i was at outdoor flea market selling stuff. the woman across from me was a chain smoker-so even tho i was outside i was breating in smoke all day. many tourists went by all day-i exchanged money with them-and was w/in 2-3 feet of them-it was school vacation week so many could have traveled etc

(i mentioned the smoker cuz last sept i was at an outdoor concert and also couldn't get away from second hand smoke. i ended up sick for months with head and chest cogestion-took all kinds of abx and antifungals before it got better. i have a history of resp problems since working in sick building)

sat nite-i coughed all night, not productive

sun-wed nite-same cough(thought it was allergy)

thurs-woke with sore throat, head and chest congestion, started taking antihistimine, sudafed and gueaifenisen, forcing fluids, esp lemon water and green tea with lemon and honey

thurs-wed-same sx plus, no appetite, profound fatigue, very congested-some sinus headache, temp between 97-98...but normal for me is 95-96. i did feel feverish-but no doc would accept that as fever.

thurs-took 2 doses oscillococcinum

thurs nite-fever to 99, cold sweats and chills-felt very sick

fri-coughing up and blowing out lots of yellow mucous(sorry)-felt much better

sat-took oscillo again , and continued to get better

mon-don't want extra sleep-have a little stuffy nose, weaning off cold meds slowly...i don't want to go back there

(i didn't mention muscle aches etc cuz i have them a lot any way and it was hard to say if they were from virus-they felt worse-but i felt bad all over)

Thanks for the info, Ip.....

For clarification.... this all started on Saturday, April 18th, correct?

Hope your stuffiness is getting better and you can get off the OTC meds.
