My 4 year old son is in treatment for Lyme. Lately he has been doing stuff that is just not like him. He has never been the type of child to hit, bite, kick.
Last Monday while my sister was watching him, he got frustrated about something and kicked her. Then just this evening, he threw a toy at my niece. He didn't even seem to care that she was crying.
He's been telling my husband that he hates him. I know this is probably bad, but I wanted to see what his reaction would be, so I asked him what he would do if something happened to me. He said he would get another Mama with my name.
I just don't know what to do. I pray it is a herx. But what if it isn't?
You always hear of people from good, loving families becoming bad adults. I'm worried about my baby!!
Please any input is appreciated.

Hi lauren,
"He has never been that type of child" says it all. It sure sounds like he is herxing! Kinda sounds like lyme rage.
Try and relax and just know he will calm down when it's over. The only thing you can do is just be there for him like I am sure you always have been.

lauren,
i'm so sorry for what he and your family are going thru right now. i'm not a parent of a lyme child.
what meds is he on? do any of med handouts say this can be also a SIDE EFFECT of that specific drug?
best wishes he gets out of this stage soon...

Hi Lauren - I'm sorry you are going through tough times. Your son is only 4 years old, this disease is difficult for mature adults to deal with. It sounds to me like he is just too young to communicate what it is he is experiencing.
I should think he is experiencing pain. I get terrible - almost migraine - headaches when I herx. If I still had toys - I just might throw some!
Like Gael said - this will pass. But be prepared - this could last a week or more. Bettyg makes a good point - check out the meds for side effects and be aware he may be having an allergic reaction to something.
You are a good mommie and he knows it. It's just a bad world for a little boy right now.
Hugs and kisses to you both, -peedie

Yes- we are not ourselves in Lyme.
Refuse to see the bad and know he will get through this.
If you treat him like he is sick he will get over it faster. Which he is.
Behavior like this when our brains are not
working properly should be loved to the max.
Children learn what they see by example.
I watched a man beat his 4 yr old child in wal
mt. Friday. He hit him so hard it hurt me.
If he had hit me that hard I would have died,
physically. He was mad because he was whining and the blows were landing on his back.
When there was so many ways to divert behavior
issues. Then he decided since I and a shelf
stocker was watching him he proceeded to whip
him proper. Our recourse was to talk loudly about
all the ways this could have been avoided. And
how he hit him so hard he would have broken my bones. I hope they got it on tape.

He is on rifampin right now. It seems to be a pretty rough one for him, which I guess is good.

Lauren, We have dealt with much of this for over 10 years now. The first few, we didn't know what monster we were dealing with..
I pray your son gets better soon but remember this is often a long process. Just get him well asap.
this behavior is dangerous. I have been threatened, hit and kicked. I still have damage to both knees. YOu need to find someone that is well trained in this.
My constant theme is get the babies well before they are teens. lymemomtooo
