c) The presence of Giardia parasites in CFS patients Giardia parasites have been found in a significant number of CFS patients. These parasites can cause extreme tiredness, malabsorption of food and nutrients, irritable bowel syndrome and allergies, which may worsen the overall symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Novotny, T.E., et al. 1990. Prevalence of Giardia lamblia and risk factors for infection among children attending day-care.. .Public Health Reports 105:4, USA
Galland, L. and Leem, M. 1990. Giardia lamblia infection as a cause of chronic fatigue. Journal of Nutritional Medicine 1:27
"Another consequence of poor intestinal integrity is fatigue resulting from malabsorption of important nutrients. If the condition persists it can lead to chronic fatigue syndrome. A giardia infection can be so draining on the immune system that it causes fatigue. Again the cause is often misdiag-nosed. A giardia epidemic in Placerville, California, for example, was mysteriously followed by an epidemic of chronic fatigue syndrome. In 1991 Dr. Galland and colleagues published a study of 96 patients with chronic fatigue and demonstrated active giardia infection in 46 percent. In another study of 218 patients whose chief complaint was chronic fatigue, Dr. Galland found that 61 patients were infected with giardia. His conclusion is that giardia may be an important cause of chronic fatigue syndrome."

I had constant diarrhea and loads of parasite problems.
I took Humaworm, uva ursi, oregano oil, plant tannins, GSE, etc. at various times. Enula was a huge help.
I also had to take more probiotics than the norm. I took VSL#3, Ultra Flora, and Theralac.

I had constant, intractable diarrhea. Negative tests for all e-coli, giardia, etc. The problem was babesia duncani. Treatment fixed it.

I second the suggestion to look into Alinia. I had diarrhea for months and months after a trip to Mexico. Stool testing found presence of Blastocystis hominis.
(Some argue that this is a normal visitor to the GI tract and causes no problems, but genetics work has shown that there are various strains, some pathogenic, which cannot be differentiated based on microscopic inspection.)
Anyway, I did a 2-week course of Alinia prior to beginning my antibiotic treatment, and although I had a ton of diarrhea during the treatment, at the end it was totally gone.
Sadly, 2 months later it's all back, as a result of antibiotics destroying my intestinal flora. But at least I have the memory of those few happy weeks when I was BM'ing like a normal person...

I took alinia for 10 days feeling better. But after stopping it - it got worse again.
Maybee it was to short - i read somewhere that some people need much longer alinia to get rid of this gi protozoas like lamblia, blastocystis, cryptosporidia.
At the moment I am taking tinidazol high dose 2 gramm (4tabs at one time) each day for 6 days. It helps enormously.! Today is 3 day - no diarrhea. Maybee its good to combine tini with alinia. Anyone took this together. Alinia manufacturer says there are no interactions.
@kimwg : which dosage of alinia do you took?
@michelle: For how long did you had diarrhea? and every day? Mine is not like water but very unformed and massive. I am suspecting babs too - didn t know that babs can cause diarrhea problems.... And how long did it too tokk you with babs treatment to get rid of diarrhea? What was your babs treatment ? mepron?
Are other babs sufferers having diarrhea too?
