I would agree with Tif. At one time hubby had rifampin compounded in 50 mg capsules. The last time he tried taking it I split his 150 mg capsules into 2 capsules.
It took him 6 months or so to work up to 600 mg. And then he only lasted for a month at that dose. Tried restarting the med again at 300 mg 2 or 3 times but just couldn't seem to tolerate that med.
His WBC also went low when he got to the 600 mg dose, but it did bounce back some on its own within a couple of weeks.
He was taking 500 mg of Zithromax 3 times per week and remains on that dose of Zith.
Many docs suggest taking the Rifampin all in one dose, but please consult your LLMD regarding this.
This is not medical advice, just info based on hubby's experiences.

My daughter takes 300 mg Rifampin and 500 mg Zith daily. She used to take 600 mg Rifampin but is doing well with the Bartonella so he cut her down.
She tolerated it fine on the higher dose too.
Good luck!

I used to take 600mg Rifampin with 500mg zithro (+ Plaquenil).
Now I'm taking 600mg Rifampin with 1000mg Biaxin and 200mg minocycline (and I also take 1000mg tinidazole during the 7 days/month that I'm not on Rifampin).
