Is the deer tick native to North America? Why are there reports that it is expanding it's range?

It was initially common to only the North East of North America.
I see them daily here down south in Louisiana.
I guess that is what they mean by expanding their range.

I just took 3 off my little fiest doggie yesterday.
After doing that, while trying to sleep, I felt things crawling on me. There wasn't of course.
Anyone else have that feeling now that spring is here? Doubled up on xanax. Yikes....
