I feel like the antibitoics are zapping my physical strength to the point where I dont have the strength to fight this anymore.

Is it ever okay to take a break from abx for a very short time (i.e. few days to a week). Has anyone ever done this and then regained their physical strength to fight on. It just seems when physically tired it is easy to grow weary mentally and emotionally to fight on.

Please share your experience. Thank you.

I was forced to take an antibiotic holiday because my liver enzymes went up (prob from ketek or mepron).. All I know is that Ive had more energy and felt better off of them this week than the whole time on them..

I think its important to take mini breaks and detox.. but im not an expert..just judging from how I've felt

Morning Song, I am sorry you are feeling like this so early into your treatment.

Call the doctor. Actually email her. She will get back to you and advise you as to what to do.

Look at the bottom of one of their info sheets and at the bottom is the email address you should use. I think it is the first email. Not the triagenurse email.

Thanks lemonsnotlymes~

I have an appointment with Dr. M this Friday and Dr. Z on June 17th. I think it may be due to the IV abx. I wish I was able to see Dr. Z sooner. Was on 2gm Rocephin for month and a half. And now have been doing IV Zith and Mepron.

Maybe my system is more sensitive then others. I too am concerned since it is very early in treatment. I dont know how everyone does it.

My doctor schedules antibiotic breaks into his treatment. Currently I am on 2 weeks, off 1 week.

--------------------
IV graduate. As of 1/10, oral Omnicef, Minocyline, Mycobutin, Levaquin, and Flagyl. Lyrica and a bunch of supplements.

I stopped oral antibiotics after 5.5 months of treatment after I got a bad stomach flu and couldn't keep anything down. I, too, was feeling I couldn't go on with all of it.

I saw my doc about two weeks later and I felt SO good. I felt like I had myself back -- no symptoms, so she said, maybe we are done.

BUT, about a week or so later, right on time of my monthly Lyme flare-ups I began to swell in my feet, ankles and legs-- feel sick and all of the symptoms, joint pain, etc. returned.

So I went back on the antibiotics and emailed her -- she said it was a good decision, and that it should take 9 to 11 months because of the way it replicates.

So I am back on and feeling under the weather all the time, which I now know is a herx response to killing the Lyme. We don't think I have a co-infection.

I have resigned myself to the fact that it is a long siege and it actually helped to feel what it will be like (hopefully)when I am through.

Good luck and hang in there! If you have a good LLMD follow the doctor's orders, but trust yourself too. I don't think the break set me back too far.

Mepron zapped my energy and strength, and that happens to some who take it. Your tiredness and lack of strength and energy may be due to the mepron.

On the other hand, mepron was tremendously effective and I am glad to have suffered through it, because it helped alot and I could only tell after stopping it how much it helped. But the fatigue was awful
