Yesterday I went to my LLMD. I asked him about my kids, should I have them tested. Told him of some symtons but I wasn't certain if they were lyme related or just plain childhood related.
He said he wasn't going to bother with testing and he wrote both of them a 30 day script for zithromax.
I am tied, I don't know if I should give them this or not. I would hate to not treat them but I am also not fond of treating something that isn't there.
Can this hurt them if I decide to? What are the draw backs?
As a parent, what would you do?

Did you get lyme before they were born?
How long have your kids had these symptoms? Can you list those?
You say that you wonder if their symptoms are just part of childhood . . . well, really . . . childhood should be a time of health (other than the usual sniffles that go around).
Your experienced LLMD obviously thinks, given your history and their symptoms, that this is important. I assume the doctor will be there for them all along, now, and this is to be just a test run? I would think assessing possible coinfections would be good, too, although he may be thinking of doing that later.
I would give them this ONLY with support supplements, for sure: Probiotics, especially, and liver support.

You might do a search for past threads about kids. And, if you edit your headline to say something about "treat my kids or not?" You may get more parents to answer.

Doctors ignored my complaints about my kids for over 12 years.
I am treating my older son who is 12 and just started my younger on transfer factor because his symptoms are primarily behavioral. We were encouraged by 2 LLMDs to treat with complementary care for now, but that may change now.
He did just get strep and is on amox so I'm not sure how long to continue.
I think a months worth of zith is just enough to make the bugs mad. I wouldn't start the zith unless you are prepared to treat until symptoms are gone. And unless your doc is prepared to keep that zith coming.
I feel for you. Just sent $1,000 to igenex for my little guy's co-infect panel.
Have you considered having cd-57 tests? Lots of people will argue with me. . but it gave us some perspective, and it was covered.
For us things have gotten worse, rather than better.

Yes, I was first infected a couple months prior to conceiving my 1st child.
They have had tick bites, but I think they were wood ticks. Although there were some strange looking ones with red on them but I thought they were too large for a deer tick.
No rashes that I am aware of.
Symtons: With my oldest (5) mainly just seems tired all the time, no matter how much sleep. Still stays fairly active but not as active as others...??? Has complained of leg pain at night and in the morning. Assumed growing pains?
My youngest(3)with her she just mainly has major mood swings. Typically is loving but then with a turn of switch she will get just nasty. Again not sure, may just be her personality? She has lots of issues since birth with bronchitis, currently has it. Again not sure if anything can relate to lyme or not.
What kind of liver support product are there?

ANY kind of tick can carry lyme and other tick-borne infections. It's just a myth that lyme only comes from deer ticks.
I've never had kids, either, but I have to say that what you describe does not seem to be normal childhood stuff. Now, I think with so much stress in our world and the prevalence of unacknowledged lyme that all that can start looking typical but it is not the natural state of childhood.
For your 3 yo -- "mood swings just because it's her personality" and A "turn of switch she will get just nasty" implies bartonella. I think she needs testing ASAP.
Some toddlers your daughter's age with bartonella have even been suicidal and, at the very least, intensely sad at times. Yet, when treated, that just disappeared. (I don't know if zith treats bart as well as lyme. It may but it's important to check.)
Your 5 yo should not be tired all the time for no reason. Leg pains after sleep can imply toxic buildup overnight and magnesium deficiency - and if lyme is there, that would explain low magnesium.

As for liver support, it's best to consult someone who is trained in treating kids. Milk thistle may be too strong for kids that young but I do not know.
As for just starting on the zith, I don't know. Be sure your LLMD is with them. I think they need to be seen in person for a comprehensive protocol and testing.
Now, given the economic times, your doctor may be doing the only thing he knows is feasible right now. Will he be there for them? This will not be solved in 30 days.
Do you have any naturopathic doctors around? LL would be best but I don't know if you get that combination. I do have the name of someone you could call with basic questions about supplements for kids if you want.

Yes, it's strange because in Ohio, the dogs get lyme from 'dog ticks', but they try to say that humans can't get lyme from dog ticks!
I'm so sorry your kids are having symptoms!
I read your other post about them and it's so funny, our son who just turned 8 has the fatigue/neuro/memory symptoms and our daughter who is 5 has the severe anger issues AND she goes crazy when I comb her hair! When you said that your daughter does too, I about fell out of my chair!
We had our son tested with Igenex, he had 41+++ and 39 IND. The LLMD we took him too said that based on the test, he has Lyme. However, this LLMD does not require blood tests for Lyme Diagnosis, we had them done before we even made an appointment.
If you want, can you pm me your LLMD's name? Our son's LLMD is in WI and I'm wondering if you are seeing the same one?

"I had my children tested first via Igenex.
However, maybe your LLMD is "priming" their immune systems
Prior to ordering Igenex testing.
Maybe get a Western Blot first....or call your LLMD and ask.

Also, Dr. B's guidelines say that zithromax isn't good as a stand alone treatment. You might take a look at the guidelines at www.ilads.org to help you make your decision.
