Has anyone taken the antibiotic Suprax? I became extremely ill after taking it for two days, 400 mg, once a day. Couldn't think, barely able to move. So I stopped taking it. I'm wondering if taking a much lower dose would make it possible for me to resume. What have others experienced with Suprax.
thanks!

I was on it for about 3 months, 3 years ago. Dosage was 1 tsp twice/day but I don't recall what that was equal to. I did OK on it although my skin got really itchy towards the end.

However, when I was put back on it a couple of years later it made me really sick and non-functioning within a couple of doses. Doc had me stop. We tried it again a month later and still same reaction so again had to stop.

My son took suprax a while back. He had no problems with it, but while on Suprax alone, his lyme symptoms (the physical ones) came raging back, worse than they had been previously.

He was promptly put back on zithromax, along with the suprax, and he did very well on this combo, no more pain, able to walk, no more behavioral symptoms (which he had big time, for the first 6 months of tx).

Of course, he was probably quite a bit younger than you at the time that he took it (age 5), but that was our experience.

Best of luck to you,
kp

aileenhome, do you remember how long it took you to recover after stopping Suprax? I stopped four days ago and am still mostly non-functional. Do you remember if it made you more dizzy?

Thanks for your reply. It sure helps to know I'm not soooo weird!

Is Suprax the same as Bactrim DS?

Just researching online, Suprax is in a different group of abx. Suprax is a cephalosporine, and Bactrim is a sulfa drug.

Does anyone know why Suprax would have such a strong reaction, possibly a herx, compared to other abx.
