Just trying to figure out why my 5 year old is not eating as well. We recently started biaxin and his appetite has really decreased.

He starts eating and then after a few bites says that his tummy is full.

Did this happen to you on this drug?

Thanks,

tickbattler

Yes I lost my appetite on Biaxin. For some people it works great, but due to side effects I could only take a couple of days. In that short time I noticed lack of appetite.

YES YES YES! I have lost 30 pounds in less than 4 months due to appetite loss. One of the potential side affects of Biaxin is anorexia, so I have read anyway.

Also his other problem may be the terrible taste in his mouth. It leaves a very bad metal taste. I ended up switching ti the Biaxin ER 9extended release) I take 1000mg at night and thats it and BOY what a difference it has made!

Appetite better still not great, but taste is vertually gone! Maybe see if you can get him the ER version. JMO

Thank you all for your replies...this helps me understand what is going on with him.

Erika - Thank you so much...I will look into possibly getting the extended release compounded for him. Not sure if that can be done, but I will do whatever I can to keep him on this med.

He has only been on it a week but I feel that it has helped a little already with his OCD and other psych stuff.

He certainly cannot afford to lose any weight however...finally just made it to the 50th percentile for the first time in his life! 50th sounds good, but he is 90th percentile for height, so he is pretty skinny.

Thanks,

tickbattler

Yes this happened to me too. It didn't last too long though. Wish it did! Trying to lose weight.

I think it happened to my sons too? But they are back to eating normal. So it should pass.

I had to stop Biaxin due to anorexia. By about the 4th day I was on it, it had gotten so bad that I could not bring myself to eat even one spoonful of food a day.

I called the doctor's office and told them what was happening and they said to stop the Biaxin. They said this was caused by the Biaxin.

My drug book says Biaxin can cause anorexia.
