I was just wondering if anyone who has used a 5 hour energy drink has found it to decrease their pain. It does decrease my pain (it is still present but less severe) and I was wondering if anyone else had the same experienc.

Thank You [Smile]

I haven't had any experience with them but know someone whose liver enzymes went through the roof after a steady diet of the drinks.

They thought he was headed toward liver failure, but once he stopped the drinks it all went back to normal!!!

Lymetoo - was it the 5 hour energy drinks specificly that elevated his liver enzymes or energy drinks in general? The 5 hour is mostly b vitamins and amino acids which is different from all the loaded with sugar and caffine drinks.

AZURE WISH,

What is the name of that 5-hour energy drink? I'd love to look it up.

-

Oh, I found a link but European Journal is just starting on TV and I must go watch that.

Look at your bottle and please report back WHICH amino acids it contains.

http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/137/6/1642S

Look for "5 h after ingestion"...

Lysine?

Bb and lysine:

"Lysine-Dependent Multipoint Binding of the Borrelia burgdorferi Virulence Factor Outer Surface Protein E to the C Terminus of Factor H1"

Now...about the "Magic five"...

the enzyme blend is:

Taurine, glucuronlactone, malic acid, n-acetyl l-tyrosine, l-phenylalanine, caffiene, citicoline.

(the caffiene amount isnt supposed to be any more than one cup of coffee)

it also has b vitaimins:
niacin (as niacinamide
b6 (as pyridoxine hydrocloride)
folic acid
b12 (as cyanocobalamin)
sodium

I am ashamed to say that the "RockStar" drink is the ONLY thing that gives me a moment of energy...

my pain goes away for about 2hrs

i have energy to clean & cook for about 1hr

I know its horrible to drink these things but just that freedom of my body for a minute means so much

I think its the Taurine since i dont react to caffiene.

Kali Dhi,

Taurine is very calming, not energizing. I wonder what else is in "RockStar"? Do you feel a centered energy or a rush and a drop from this?

Curious, I went to the site but my eyes just are blown away by the graphics and I can't look at it long enough to find the ingredients. Be sure to avoid caffeine and aspartame.

-----------

AZURE WISH,

Glad you found something that helps decrease pain. I think the vitamins and amino acids are the key. In general, for anyone who gets a rush from this, it would be best to know more about the amounts of each ingredient.

L-phenylalanine can also decrease pain, by the way, as it affects neurotransmitters to boost happy chemicals. If you feel fine with this, it may just be the right amount for you.

In occurs naturally in foods and is often in amino acids blends. Just be sure the amount is within normal balance of the others. Many energy drinks boost the amount of L-phenylalanine to the moon and that is not good for anyone, especially those with depleted adrenals or fried nervous systems.

------

5-hour energy drink contains sodium benzoate, a preservative and some artificial flavors, too. I also worry about any liquid vitamin drinks in plastic as the petroleum products from plastic can leech into the drink.

It also contains EDTA as a preservative, so that might affect some people adversely and could leech more chemicals out of the plastic bottle. It's hard to find a product that has all you want and nothing you don't, though.

It's hard to find the amount of L-phenylalanine it contains so I would be cautious if you feel too energized from this with a drop. For anyone with anxiety - or a seizure disorder, hyperacusis or tinnitus, it is important to know the exact dose.

Many formulas are proprietary blends and do not disclose the specifics amounts. I have called many companies and, usually, they will not tell the amount of this. If I can't find out, I just won't take it.

I hate to mention this, however, Lyme patients are suppose to avoid caffeine altogether. It is really hard on the adrenals. However, Green Tea has many wonderful properties. You can also get naturally decaf Green Tea.

Up...phenylalanine!

Better choice...arginine, lysine, proline PLUS vitamin C and green tea extract.

Restoring the balance of amino acids while hitting the pathogen.
