Dear Everyone, I was wondering about the bad body odor issue. I know Candida could cause this, but wonder if more is involved. Could impaired Phase II Detox Pathways be related to this? Sulfur metabolization is often a problem for those with Lyme Disease. Does that manifest in sweat where it smells like garlic or onion when you have not had any?

I'd like to know too Jin. This problem comes and goes for me, but when I have it it's BAD and I cannot stand to be around myself. Nothing helps.
I've noticed that for me it seems worse during babs flairs, so I'm wondering if it could be babesia related??

Are you wearing any synthetic fibers? Before I knew what was wrong I would smell awful. I was wearing a lot of acetate or poly-blend clothes to work. When I couldn't work anymore and was home I wore only 100% cotton and the smell was no longer an issue.
Your kidneys may need a little help, too, As for figuring out exactly how the liver is stressed, that will be hard so basically, just cover all your bases.
Get the basic kidney and liver function tests from your PCP. The be sure your liver support is on target with Singleton and Burrascano's suggestions.
Are you able to sweat (without aerobic activity that is to be avoided until better)? A warm (not hot) bath in epson salts . . . magnesium supplements might need to be increased . . . check your water intake (about 10 glasses a day?).
And . . . smelling like grapefruit would be fine with me. If you are eating onions (which is a good idea), anyone might smell more of onions. It's just the way that works.
However, if you are not eating any onions, this would be curious. Do you use shallots or garlic in cooking? Are you talking allicin or garlic capsules?

When certain yeasts like candida are killed off with antimicrobials, it is said that ammonia is created. As I've killed off candida in cycles, I can almost always predict when my BO will have that ammonia smell.

I was stinky, peculiar stinky, not regular mild sweat smell, when I was on high dose IV Rocephin.
I attributed it to toxcicity. I could shower and 10 minutes later the smell was back...it was horrible.
When I stopped the high dose and cleared toxins, the smell went away.

I was the same way on rocephin. Underarms and feet stunk. After I stopped rocephin, the smell went away a little bit later.
I have never had that with any other abx treatment. I thought it was from the rocephin.
Needless to say, I washed my underarms and feet quite often during the day.

wow!! i thought i was crazy...i thought no way, this has got to be just me....LOL
i hadn't eaten any onions as they upset my stomach, but i was going around saying "do you smell onions?" my husband thought i was crazy...he said "well you must be craving something..."
it was really strong...he said he couldn't smell it, but it sure could.....
i never thought about detox and i haven't done anything different...
wonder what causes it? sure wish it was something other than onions, like roses or chocolate or something...

Dear Lauren, I am not sure if it is related to Babesia. It could be, though. The smell is not always as strong all of the time, but is nearly always there for me. You feel like you need to hide until it goes away. Nothing seems to get rid of it completely.
Dear Keebler, I wear cotton whenever possible. Organic is best. Material that does not breathe is bad. I eat onion some, but the odor is there even when I have not eaten any in days. That is why it is so puzzling.
Dear Cold Feet, I suspect the Candida may be the cause. I definitely get worse with tomatoes, peanuts, and moldy foods. Sometimes the smell under my arms is moldy. The ammonia odor is not there at all for me, but the onion odor is. Mine is there pretty much every single moment.
Dear feelfit, Mine is still there in the shower! I can scrub like crazy, but it is still there. Sometimes I wonder if something in the soap is making it worse. I do believe being too full of toxins is an issue for me. Sweat is one of the first ways the body excretes toxins.
Dear kelmo, I read the ammonia odor is present with kidney issues. Do you have metals? A friend of mine did. She gets the odor any time she drinks alcohol. I do not get this, but do not drink any alcohol.
Dear KarenB, The baking soda helps. I no longer use regular deoderant due to it containing aluminum. Reducing my toxic load is one thing I am working on. Repeated washing does not do a lot of good. Not wearing shoes helps. I normally wear them only when taking the trash out or walking the dog. They make my feet sweat even worse.
Dear randibear, No, you are not insane! Mom said she could not smell it anymore after I washed under my arms, but I still could. Detox is likely what we both need. I sweat like crazy, even when I am not hot. Candida is part of it for sure, but I wonder if there are other contributors.

Hi, I feel things like eyes,nose,throat,odors,Nails,many things Drs. do not check anymore. WHY, I do not know, Dr.s hardly touch us when they need to be aware of these tell tail signs. I had just written about Feel Lymies give off sent for bugs to bite us smart enough to know makes them stronger/stealth. Might sound stupid but when I do not show I notice Oder, not typical BO...OK,sounds silly.
Just from my research most lymies have said same that not typical odor, mild but not normal.
Just my 2-bits, if helps or you have something else going on mention to DR. He may just stare at you...lol Hugggggssss, to ALL in NEED..

I also stink! It's nice to know I am not the only stinker around here.
I have to carry baby wipes in my car so I can wipe my pitts in case I have a stink episode.
Someone said they can shower and 10 minutes later they stink. Well that is me.
It is like a sudden release of sweat, like in an instant. I wonder if it is our bodies trying to rid themselves of infection.
My LLMD said it is Lyme.

I tried to get my hubby to smell my pitts up close, but he wouldn't. He said he would take my word for it.

After I first got Lyme 15 years ago, I started sweatng more and it smelt like a cheap plastic Gumby doll. Can't think of anything more toxic than that. Still have it. No idea what it is. Would much rather like Grapefruit.

Dear Kerryblue, You are right about the doctors. They look at you like you are on crack or something if you mention this. It is definitely not typical body odor. I agree completely with that! The trouble is, you feel so incredibly disgusting!
Dear sutherngrl, Your LLMD is most likely right. The infection is bacterial. Bacteria causes odor. Maybe Borrelia has a smell when it comes out of our pores. This makes sense. That is so funny about your husband taking your word for it about the body odor!
Dear hobokinite, There seems to be a definite connection with Borrelia and body odor. I get that plastic odor in my hair for some reason. It is really odd. I do not use styling gel or anything like that. I cannot figure out why it would be so strong. The grapefruit would be alright by itself, but it is accompanied by onion/garlic scent.

Dear Momfromtexas, I do have other symptoms of Babesia. I get night sweats, and feel as if I am bobbing up and down sometimes. It is not really dizzy, but makes me feel as if I am on a boat. I also have tachycardia and feel faint frequently. This is very scary.

I actually just posted about this in another thread about oily hair. I think this is a detox thing...at least for me. I noticed when I started antibiotics that my hair became really oily and my sweat smelled gross.
I was just talking about this with my Mom yesterday. She was visiting me and I was telling her how I thought my sweat smelled like cat pee lol!! How gross is that?! It is true though. She said she couldn't smell it but I could.
I definitely think it is detox though because this started when I began abx.

Hi, This odor is NO B.O. or just armpit odor is by body, & unable to even put name to it. But have had other FMers/or Lymies at clinic tell me same thing. Not super strong but annoying to live with. Compared to my long list of major symptoms mainly pain/Nausea/fatigue. Is not on top of list but sure could do without. Maybe spray Dove all over. HA. Hmmmmm, interesting. Then people will just think that gal must really have B.O. Not sure if that is answer????Ha....Imagine getting ready to go out Deodorize yourself instead of you perfume...Hmmm Just imagine those stares. Yikes, could not splane......
