I had my tick bite, at age 13. We tried to burn it off with a heated metal object.
Of course, this is not something you want to do, because the contents of the tick ends up in your blood.

Well, that was around 1977.

I want to mention the most important part; this was in Nova Scotia Cananda.

At age 16, I had a bad case of infectious mononucleosis.

There was full blown inflammation of lymph glands, massive swelling of spleen, very high fevers, and complete collapse of energy.

This happened slowly until it peaked, over a few weeks. I was bed-ridden for a month.
The diagnosis was made through symptoms, and elevations of monocytes.

Looking back, I realize this could have been caused by a number of things, and not just EBV.

The fact nobody around me got anything, including a girlfriend at the time, tells me it my not have been a virus.

All these symptoms could have been caused by malaria. In fact, I responded very well to antibiotics, which if were not taken, I would likely have died.

Fast-forward to today, and I have a lab report on a specimen I had submitted.
They worked on this with my guidance, for a total of 144+ hours. They used top university lab, and managed to identify a specific gene that tells us the main species of this specimen.

It was plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest form of human malaria in the world!

Mind you, could not sequence the entire DNA, which theyt tried very hard to do.

I have pictures of the oocysts, and they are not the same as this species, but could be some sub-species that has not been identified.

Therefore, pending immuno assay for antibodies to this form of malaria, it is very possible that ticks could be carrying a form of malaria. It initially responds to antibiotics, but can become chronic, and cause a lifetime of symptoms.
It may even be far more common than we think, in this part of the world.
I will let you know what the tests show as soon as I get them. Microw
