I started having major heart issues so I stopped it, but the symptoms are still there.
I think it could be bart in my heart and now I'm afraid to get back on bactrim.
Has anyone had good or bad experiences with bactrim? I'd like to hear your story.
thanks

I took Bactrim DS (double strength) twice per day for babesiosis microti. My now famous lyme doc said it would hit bart also.
I took the Bactrim right after finishing Levaquin for bart.
I was on the Bactrim for about 11 months. I didn't have any problems with this med. It worked right away--I got a regular "sick time" every Friday evening through Sunday evening (48 hours). It came and went like clock work.
When I told it to my doc, he said that babs has a 1-week cycle and a 2-week cycle. So, this was the 1-week babs cycle.
He had me add artemesinin to encompass the sick time. I took it starting Friday morning and through Sunday every week.
The art worked like a miracle. It reduced the sick time to just 6 hours the first week. Then, less and less each week. Then, I got the sick time every other weekend (the 2-week babs cycle).
The sick time was an awful time--mentally as much as physically. But, I had no heart issues. I just lay without moving or talking. No eating, drinking, no getting up, and the most awful mental state of believing that I was doomed to feel this way forever.
Once I added the art, the sick time was just a time of having to lie down and go to sleep.
I got rid of babs and bart thanks to the Bactrim. That's my story. Hope it helps you.
Are you taking it to treat babs? If so, Burrascano says to always add artimesinin to the treatment. Do it in a pulsed fashion.
Please note, my drug reference book shows "allergic myocarditis" as a possible side effect of Bactrim. This side effect is listed as a life-threatening reaction to the drug.
You may want to look up allergic myocarditis on the web and see if you have the symptoms of it. Also, be sure to let your doc know about this.
If it is an allergic reaction, that could explain why it continued even after you stopped the Bactrim.
Here's a quote I found on line: "Myocardial changes during acute sensitivity reaction to drugs and biologic substances, e.g. penicillin, are well documented. Syncope, bradycardia, tachycardias and T wave alterations may be observed in allergic myocarditis." Copyright 1962, by the American College of Chest Physicians

No, I took it with rifampin for bart. I have babs duncani, I think because it has been hard to treat. Months of mepron, biaxin, with art, mepron, zith and art and nothing has totally treated it.
I will look up allergic myocarditis, thank you.

Red eyes, joint pain, blood blisters in mouth, sore throat, and a couple of odd bruises for me.
I took it for 7 days and then stopped. My LLMD thought it was herxing at first but then listened to more of my details and suggested I was herxing with an allergic reaction. I'm off until I see him again.
That's just me though. I wasn't aware of any allergies to sulfa drugs for me, but maybe I do. It's too bad too because I think it was actually helping my heart-related Bart symptoms.

Do a search here for some of Charlie's posts (I think he's member # 25 or so) and put in "Bactrim" - he had great success with it, if I remember correctly.
Bactrim was excellent for me, and a Biaxin/Bactrim combo was one of my very favorites.
It gave me quite a herx - and then I felt better and better on it (thus the reason it became a favorite).
On the con side, at a later date, I added malarone to the combo and for whatever reason that was too much for my body to handle - 3 meds with a high risk for pancreatitis, and yes - I developed pancreatitis.
But... even with that, I would consider going back on Bactrim because it worked so well for my babs/bart problems.
Hoping you find the right answer for your body soon, Cactus

Hey Charlie - you were my inspiration when starting out on Bactrim! I was scared stiff of it, but reading your posts gave me a lot of hope!
