Has anyone gotten fatigue from drinking pure beet juice? I know it is great for liver detox....might I mention how LOVELY it tastes.....
I drank about 10 ounces on an empty stomach earlier today.......about 5 hours (or so) after I drank it I got REALLY tired......almost felt like I had taken a sleeping pill (which I have not done in a very long time).
I do have detox issues and have to take low doses of everything; if that has anything to do with it.

Beet juice is VERY concentrated. I ALWAYS mix mine with carrot and other juices. Never use more than about a half-beet. I would say that you could feel bad from the beet juice.
Tomorrow's bathroom trips should be interesting for you. LOL

Dear Tif, I actually drank plain canned beet juice and ate the beets, and it helped me with reflux and gallbladder pain! I saw it on www.gallbladderattack.com and was amazed that it helped. Despite having my gallbladder removed in 2003, I still experience horrible symptoms. Beets detox the liver and gallbladder, so this may be why you felt so sluggish. Removal of toxins can cause severe fatigue.

Six, you are like the cleansing guru and you only do half a beet? Did I see somewhere that you are not supposed to do it all the time? I did a search on here but didn't find it.
I am the one who has to take baby doses of everything...........interesting.
Jin, your list and mine are almost identical; had my gb removed in 2000 and had phantom pains for a while too.........oh my drinking it by the can?

It may be the toxins sloughing off into your system and making you feel like crud.
Hang in there. You may want to dilute the beet juice with some other juices
Hope you feel better soon. =)

It's most probably because beets are high in sugar.
You probably caused a surge in your blood sugar and a sudden release of excess insulin and you became exhausted. Same effect that eating too many carbs has but you had it in super concentrated liquid form.
Are you hypoglycemic?

Abx, I have had trouble with hypoglycemia at times......especially when I was thinner. I try to make sure I eat something every few hours to be on the safe side....

Yes, I only use half a beet ... but I use juice in general, not beet juice specifically, so I don't know what the "high dose" of the juice is.
I am hypoglycemic, so usually drink my juice about a half hour or hour before dinner, so by the time the blood sugar might start to swing, I'm eating again. I like the juice on an empty stomach.
Thanks for the giving the birds the pulp tip, they really love it!

I think it is best to stay under 4 oz. for veggie juices unless a lot of celery stalks &/or leafy greens are added. Too much juice can be such a hit not only in term of insulin rush but it's a lot for the kidneys all at once.
Taking fish oil &/or a few nuts before a moderate amount of veggie juice will help. So, too, eating the pulp will help with glucose stability.
Adding into the juicer a ton of celery will help decrease the sugar load, too.

Strong Liver/Kidney detox did you drink lots of water? I would stick with the above rec to use 4oz or less mixed with other juices.
Maybe lowered your BP too much, certainly the timing seems right. Id be interested to know if you have low blood pressure as your norm?
Beet juice (beetroot in the UK) has been found to reduce blood pressure in a recent study at a prominent London Hospital. Researchers gave the volunteers half a litre (a little less than a pint) of beet juice to drink. The lowering effect on blood pressure was dramatic and was seen in 3 -4 hours after drinking the juice.

Yes, I had the same problem. Also tired the next day. I ate Schoenenberger red beet crystals. Tasted soooo good and I forgot to stop eating. I highly recommend it, it is crunchy.

Dear Tif, I only ate half of the can on the days I eat it. Consuming it every other day seems to work. According to the gallbladder website, there is a combination of flaxseed oil and lemon juice with the beet juice. I do not have a juicer, so I must purchase the closest thing to pure.
I ran out, and now I am suffering again. That is amazing how similar our health issues have been! Apparently, an intolerance to fat and liver issues are the real trouble. This explains why removing the gallbladder does not get rid of the pre-operative symptoms. I also take bile salts and okra pepsin by Standard Process. It is strange, but I actually crave beet juice some now.
Dear Abxnomore, I am hypoglycemic. The beet juice actually energized me. However, I have to eat an unbelievable amount of carbohydrate just to bring my glucose up to normal. 80 mg/dl will only be obtained for several hours after eating half of a tube of Lay's Stax, or something with peanut butter. The trouble is, peanut butter is bad for the yeast.
