Hi - I have a question or two regarding my husband's recent blood work. He had the Lyme screening done (which of course was negative) and they were supposed to do the Western Blot and co-infections but they didn't.

I was looking at his blood work which the pcp says is fine, but there are some things out of range.

I was wondering if anyone else with Lyme has also has high creatinine and low EGFR.

Also his Vitamin D was in the "insufficient" range.

He has not felt well for a long time, very achey, major fatigue, knees and back ache all the time. Brain fog, major irritibility.

I do have chronic lyme (and our kids) and I have wondered about my husband for a long time.

Any opinions?

Thanks, Julie

Julie,

Sorry to hear your husband is sick.

Are you seeing an LLMD? Are they affiliated with ILADS?

A good lyme doctor would probably use one of the best lab in the country, which is IGENEX LABS in Palto Alto, CA for lyme screening. Other labs are usually used for testing coinfections.

Typically, a western blot (IGM) is usually given, which basically tells if there is a 'current infection' going on. IGG means 'past' infection.

Usually they would do a comprehensive work up of your husband's health history.

If I were you, I would find a good Lyme Literate doctor. If your dr. says he is lyme literate, I would ask him if he follows the ILADS protocol. Do question the out of range tests and get answers.

Also, keep in mind that lyme and co's are treated based on symptoms, not just test results. Many folks who have negative tests results are currently being treated with antibiotics.

good luck and keep us posted. [Smile]

Thanks gemofnj, yeah I see an LLMD and my kids do as well.

I was hoping to not have to pay for blood tests again through Igenex for my husband, so I thought maybe if he got a western blot done through the labs that our insurance covers, that maybe some band or bands would be ++.

I guess the next step is for him to come with me to our next visit and get Igenex tests.

I wondered if there was any consistencies with his high creatinine and low Vit. D - I mean, would that make sense with Lyme?

Thanks so much. Julie

Hi Julie,

Im sorry, i thought your post said they were supposed to do the western blot but they didnt do it.

So glad you are seeing a lyme literate doc. That must be a relief.

I dont know the answer to your question regarding the creatine, but I would just give a call to the office, or better yet take him with you.

From what I have read, I thought vitamin B (and magnesium) is specifically depleted from the lyme bug.

I wouldnt sweat a 'positive' test though if you are short on cash.

He probably just needs a good evaluation and based on his symptoms he can get some treatment.

Maybe some other posters will come along who can offer you some other good info.

hi, my vit D and b12 are both very low, even after supplementation for 8 weeks with high doses of D it only went up 3 pts.

Common to have these low in Lyme from what i've seen.

Get your husband the proper blood test from Igenex, all of my other tests were negative until i had the igm from igenex..
