Out of nowhere, my 3 year old daughter complained that her front tooth or the gum above hurt last night. I know she wasn't pretending because since then, she had chosen to use her side teeth to bite.
I am so torn with this so called "treatment" and I hope it is not a torture for nothing.

I actually had mouth pain when I was taking a break from antibiotics. My whole face hurt including the inside of my mouth, my gums and my teeth. At one point I thought I had absessed teeth, but the pain finally subsided.
I think this might have something to do with the cranial nerves be irritated or inflammed. But I am not a doctor, so it is just my best guess after doing some light research.
I hate to hear of a small child suffering with such miseries. I wish you guys the best!

She might have started grinding her teeth at night. That can cause pain.
Also check the tooth and see what color it is. If it is dark, she could have injured it and it is dead. Dead teeth abscess. Some times there will be a little bump on the gum and that can be an abscess.
Be sure to keep it clean--brush and floss.

My daughter also has symptoms of teeth and gum pain. But, she was a teenager. She did get three crowns and a root canal that we aren't sure now she needed.
Now, when she has that pain, we wait it out. It usually shifts sides.
You can get Orajel or something to numb the pain.

Thanks again. I will try the icy stuff mentioned here first.
Now I do notice a small reddish bump on the gums she pointed at. Will this change the whole question?

Just watch it. If it gets more angry, it could be an abcess. If she has decent oral hygiene she should be okay.

since she is 3 she should not be teething these teeth come in at age 6-7 maybe a cold sore or ulcer. primary herpes can cause extreme pain, high temp and bedridden for 7-10 days. this is a normal virus in our world and almost everyone in the world has contact to it. a small red bump is a fistula to an abscess. she probably fell and hit the tooth causing the nerve to die in the tooth. the tooth in children usually turn gray due to broken red blood cells that are stuck inside the nerve canal the fistula will probably pop and blood or pus may come out. tooth can have a root canal or be removed it will damage the permanent tooth if it is not taken care of

Yes, I definitely think teeth aching can be a herx. I've experienced it myself, even this past week.
