My newly infected husband is spending at least 20 hours a day in bed. He sleeps most of the time. I feel he needs this sleep but I am concerned about his inactivity predisposing him to blood clots.
Has anyone heard of LD patients being treated prophylactally with Lovenox while at home and confined to bed due to profound exhaustion?
I know at least one of our local hospitals gives it to ALL their admitted patients, even if they do not have a history for or symptoms of blood clots.

I have not heard of Lovenox for at home use, but during my hospitalization in April for Pancreatitis, I was given the injection every morning. I DO have a known history of blood clots and also have Factor II gene mutation. I do not know if it was given to me as a hospital routine or because of my history. I have been told that if I am ever confined to bed, I would need to take something to reduce the risk of clots- whether that would be Heparin or Lovenox...not really sure. Years ago, I had to give myself Heparin injections 2 x a day at home for over a year (it was during a pregnancy)

A friend of ours has been taking home Lovenox injections for a non-Lyme health condition.
It made me wonder if we should be considering this for my husband.

HI G,
i had to take lovenox after my hip replacement surgery 2 yrs. ago, and i even left hospital with a blood clot, DVT, unknown to ALL of us!
before they dismissed me i was complaining about my knee; it was swollen & red hot! i was melting ice cubes on it every 30 min. where these special white things were to be good for 2 hrs!!
i didn't go anywhere either, but after surgery and BEFORE, they had all of us wiggling our feet constantly .... forward, backward, circles, etc .... 24/7 to REDUCE BLOOD CLOTS!
i got home 6 pm from hospital; even knee got much worse so i called our local HOMEWARD RN who was to come see me for 1st time next morning at 10 pm.
at 1st due to time she suggested we wait on this, but i told her i'm NOT a person who cries wolf; there is something seriusly wrong. so she called me back and was there for 1 hr. soonafter!
she determined it was a blood clot.
her way of telling this was: if you take your foot of leg/knee that is hurting, move it TOWARDS YOUR BODY as far as you can.
IF IT HURTS, YOU HAVE A BLOOD CLOT; it should not be painful otherwise.
i continued doing this moving my feet constantly. i had it down pat where i was doing it in my sleep hubby said!
no, it's NOT good to be in bed 20 hrs. a day NOT doing anything; so i agree with you from having been there; done that. hugs

Wow, this is really interesting; I've been having a real bad time lately and been in bed almost 100% of the time for a few weeks.
I have a few Lovenox shots, I'm going to take them! Thanks!!!

Bettyg, thanks for the advice. I will keep that foot exercise/test thing in mind.
Tracy9, Remember I AM NOT A DOCTOR! So, perhaps you should clear the use of Lovenox with your doctor before using it. I would feel horrible if something happened and you used it because of my question.
