I have been on ABX for...oh...19 months now.

After my last round of Doxy I god BAD thrush so

I took Naystin. I have been off ABX for a month

now with no major lyme symptoms. YEAH!

However, thrush seems to be back. Any ideas?

As far as I can tell its only oral yeast. I

also have EBV if that is relevant. Thanks!

hi j,

Congratulations!

Make sure you are still taking a really good refrigerated probiotic that has a high culture/high strain content.

Antibiotics kill off bad the GOOD flora in your stomach and intestines, and you need to replace it to avoid gut problems. Your llmd may have a professional strength you can buy.

For example, Renew Life Ultra Flora CRITICAL CARE has 50 billion live cultures and 10 strains of bacteria. Another good refrigerated brand is Megaflora from Megafoods, 20 billion/14 strains!

Replenish often and take by itself without other supplements or abx. You can get this in most health food stores (or something like it) just get the maximum strains and make sure it is refrigerated.

The more cultures and strains the better. What probiotic are you currently taking?

You want to replenish 2-3 times a day or more as needed, once at bedtime and 2-3 hours away from antibiotics!

New lymies usually run into is yeast problems.
Here are a few tips on how to avoid candida or yeast problems.

Yeast can mimic lyme symptoms. There is a spit test (i know YUK) but its pretty reliable.

Probiotics ALONE will not keep yeast under control, especially if a carb free diet is not maintained. In case you didnt know, sugar FEEDS yeast, big time.

Step 1: DIET (low carb/low sugar/high protein diet)

Step 2: Detox to slough off toxins by candida

Step 3: ANTIFUNGALS along with the probiotics can aid in controlling yeast.

Step 4: Oral hygiene-prevents reinfection

Herbal antifungals along with oral hygiene can be very effective if used before yeast gets out of control. Herbals, can be olive leaf, garlic, pau de arc, grapefruit seed extract or oregano, etc.

Personally, fungal defense by garden of life and Oregamax worked great in combination with good refrigerated probiotics and a low carb diet. Add a little detox in and it accelerates the results.

Combine that with good oral hygiene, (ie brushing tongue every day, rinsing with a strong antiseptic mouthwash for 30 seconds)-yes it burns.

Then by dipping your brush in bleach and rinsing thoroughly after ever, you can hopefully keep yeast under control. Yeast actually starts on the tongue and you can reinfect yourself!!

Detox can be in the form of steam/sauna, warm to hot baths, low impact exercise, lemon water, adding lots of fiber to your diet, and/or detox products or methods as tolerated, to get rid of the candida toxins or die off.

There are tons of other additional yeast aid products. To name a few, kolerex, candicyn, candi gone, threelac, cuturelle and candex, etc.

But, with all that being said, some folks need still need prescription antifungals such as nystatin or diflucan in addition to the probiotics, diet and detox.

Here is a good link with similar suggestions on how to fight yeast:
