Over the past few days i have been feeling SO strange. I do not know if its lyme related or what.

Not on any meds for the Lyme. Only vitamins like co-q10 and a multi vitamin. I am on nuvo ring, which I just started earlier this month. But, I have had this feeling in the past just not as bad.

The feeling is AWFUL. Its like the pain you get in your stomach when you fall (rollercoaster rides?) or someone scares you terribly.

It is all the time and it is stressful. I feel calm one min and the next I feel like I am hopeless and that everything is terrible. Multiple times throughout the day I feel like all I can do is cry, so even if I was feeling well, I can't really leave the house.
I can not sleep a wink. even with sleeping pills. I can bairly lay still when I am in bed because I am so uncomfortable in my own skin and so upset about everything and it keeps me up.

I keep thinking it might be the birth control, but I have been on bc in the past and never had a problem like this, and the one I am on now is supposed to be the lowest dose of hormones available.

I don't know what to do. I am freaking out. This feeling makes me have anxiety about everything. I feel like everything is going to fail, and that everything is hopeless and I am powerless. (these are feelings I am not really accustom to). I usually never have anxiety.

Does anyone else know what I am talking about?

This happened for almost a month in april, but I thought it was just from all the stress in my life at that time. Plus, it was not as bad then.

Hopefully, soon I will be back on IV abx and back into regular life. Just waiting for the insurance to approve this.

Skyler,

How awful. I hurt for you.

I don't know the exact answer as each of us are so different, but my first thought is that the disease is in your brain and triggering these panic feelings.

When I was first sick, I was referred to a lyme specialist who was an anesthesiologist by day and a board certified homeopath by night.

He put me on 13 remedies specific to what he found in me and within 30 days all my mental issues resolved and have never returned.

I wasn't having panic issues, but was having terrible cognitive issues and memory issues. I couldn't recall words, etc. I suffered weekly migraines. All gone.

That was 4 yrs ago and they have never returned. Furthermore, allergies I suffered for 10 yrs (since first bout with lyme) also are gone as is a mild asthma.

According to this doctor, the homeopathic remedies guide the immune system to fight the pathogens everywhere they hide, including crossing the blood brain barrier.

However it worked, it was great stuff.

Skyler, I'm sorry you're experiencing this. It is a horrible disease. You're fine and normal functioning adult one moment the next you're a panicked person that can't do anything.

Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. I never had anxiety till this past April. I've been to the ER twice.

I wake up with a pit in my stomach and try to get thru my day. Some days are off the chart bad and others are manageable.

I've never been a panicky person, but I am now. I'm sure mine will resolve with treatment.

I saw your post about the Co-Q10 maybe stirring up something. It might be as simple as your system is very fragile and anything upsets it.

I once drank a tiny cup of Monavie and had a panic attack. So, there was a period when if I ate something it would trigger panic.

I thought to myself seriously this is ridiculous. It's like being trapped in you own body/mind. I hate it.

I watched "What about Bob" for comic relief. The show from the outside looking in is a very funny show, but not the other way around.

You can PM me if you want. Also, have you looked up anxiety on this board.

C

I used to get the same feeling in my stomach and I would describe it as the same feeling you get when on an amusement park ride.

It has gone away with treatment and my LLMD said it was the Lyme in my stomach.

A few months ago when I was having many symptoms the feeling had moved up to my chest/collarbone area. Very strange!!

The anxiety feeling is Lyme related too. Fortunately this subsides with treatment as well.

Is it possible the birth control is making your symptoms worse?
Ask your doctor about this.

Good luck and get back on abx. soon!!

I have been on klonopin for anxiety. it works, but it terribly addictive.

I know that Inositol calms anxiety. My friend swears by it. You can get it at the health food store. Google it and see what you think [Smile] I would start at low dose as with everything else [Smile]

thank you all for your posts! Just talking to someone about this is making it a little more manageable.

I am wondering myself weather this might be from the birth control. I really hope it is not because I have endometriosis and I have to be on birth control to slow it from coming back, so i can put off having more surgeries.

Ruggie,
I am totally going to look up Inositol. It sounds like its worth a shot.

Thank you again!

I made an appointment with my doctor today for 2, and I am going to ask them about this. I just felt like I was going crazy and did not know what to do or how to go about doing something about it.

Thanks for your help. I will let you guys know what my LLMD says.

Skyler, I had this for a long time too, and I have read many accounts of it here. For some at least, it seems to have something to do with the adrenal glands and hormone imbalance, which can be caused by damage from Lyme, but can also heal with Lyme treatment.

The adrenal glands sit on top of your kidneys, very near your stomach, underneath the ribcage at the bottom. An adrenaline rush or "dump" can cause your stomach area to get tight, fluttery, achy and/or painful. Not to mention the adrenaline causes anxiety, panic, general uneasiness, insomnia, lower external temperature, fast breathing, rapid heart rate, and fight or flight response. It is our survival hormone (one of them anyway).

At times it felt like some of my "adrenal dumps" were being triggered by diaphragm or stomach spasms, but I never could be sure.

Click here for image of location of adrenal glands

Sometimes the adrenaline rushes can go up to your chest or even your head. This would happen every time I fell asleep at one point. It was horrible. It is a very VERY uncomfortable feeling.

One thing that helped me through it was drinking herbal teas with calming herbs in them. "Calming Tea" by Yogi Teas is my favorite, but there are many brands.

You might want to talk to your LLMD about your hormone levels, and ask about testing them. Many people with Lyme start to experience imbalances. Some people treat them with scripts or supplements, others treat indirectly by taking just the antibiotics (like me).

You might want to do a search here for adrenaline rush, or adrenal fatigue, or just adrenal. There have been very helpful posts about this in the past.

I hope that you can get into treatment soon and leave this nasty symptom behind.

So sorry to hear you are feeling like this. Anxiety is tough! When I first became ill I was waking up at night out of deep sleep and would have the most awful panic attacks. They are scary, and mine would come out of nowhere. Nothing triggered them. I think lyme just makes our bodies out of whack. I still get occasional anxiety, but not near as bad.

As for it being your birth control it may be. I just had a friend who was on Nuva Ring and had to have it removed cause she was having problems. What are the listed side effects? You may want to call your dr.

Hang in there... we're here to listen.

I have a feeling it is Lyme-related or maybe Bartonella or Babesia. I think either of those co-infections can cause extreme anxiety, depression and loss of control of our emotions.

I know this doesn't help at all, but I went through so much of what you described for several months last winter before I started on abx.

Sending healing thoughts your way,

Leelee

Do you by any chance remember the name of any of the remedies, or can you find out? I am VERY curious what you took.

Thanks so much if you can!

I have a very, very similar feeling in the gut/torso. It is a very uneasy feeling, and does make me feel very edgy/panicky. But it is a VERY physical feeling. And the way you described it--like that 'fall' at an amusement park...but lasting for long periods of time....exactly the same here.

It does trigger anxiety/worry in me, quite a bit, but I am still convinced it has a physiological root cause.

I've mentioned it to my lyme doc...no real answers, but likely lyme affecting the nervous system.

You're right, it's a terrible feeling. I hope yours improves.
