I think i caught this early because havn't had any symptoms other than the initial rash about 3 weeks age. I've been recommended to take doxycycline i'm not sure the dosage however and the duration to take the antibiotic...doctors recommend 200mg per day while people who had the disease say nothing short of 600mg a day will work. Any person with experience care to commment.

If you take 200mg per day, the disease will likely NOT be eradicated. You want it GONE completely when you finish treatment.

If it were ME, I would want 400mg of doxy per day for 6-8 wks. ( preferably 8 wks )

WELCOME!!!!

I take mine in two doses with food. I agree with Lymetoo about treatment.

Catching early is within the first 1-2 days of infection. Animal studies have shown that Lyme can reach the CNS and brain within 12-48 hours.

Symptoms do not always match with how long you have had Lyme infection. You can have it for a long time and have minimal or no neuro symptoms, or have it for a couple of weeks and have lots of neurological symptoms.

It depends on many factors. Many times, the infection is generally latent for a while and only causes minimal symptoms before it really starts to bother you.

I would find a Lyme-literate physician and start treating to ILADS treatment guidelines ASAP:

It will be well worth your future health to see a Lyme literate MD ASAP.

You can post on the Seeking a Doctor board here.

You may need treatment (meds) for other tick borne diseases that are also transmitted by ticks such as babesia, bartonella, ehrlichia and others.

As others have said, you need 200 mg Doxy twice daily for at least 6-8 weeks for Lyme that is not yet chronic.

Do everything you can to stop the spread of this infection(s) now, before it causes years of misery and chronic health problems, including disability.

99% of Dr's do not know how to properly treat lyme and coinfections.

Please find a LLMD.
