I have had terrible pain in tailbone off and on... i haven't worried yet because i have so much other pain However, i have a great chiropracter and when my structure is in place, I do much better all around. There are also stretches you can do to make sure your tailbone is in place. If it slips out, I guess it can cause probs with cerebral spinal fluid (not severe, just makes you feel worse). I'm not sure your pain is tailbone .... just wanted you to know you are not alone with pain in the butt Posts: 68 | From chicago, illinois | Registered: Jul 2009

I have the same problem. It turned out to be an infected prostate (common symptom for men with Lyme). You may want to get yours checked.

I have had a weird pain in that region... It always seemed to me like a muscle spasm, and I would just have to wait it out... very uncomfortable.

I have had irritable bowel syndrome, as well as other issues in my colon, too. I switched to a gluten free diet two months ago and all my symptoms in that area are gone.
Maybe it will help you.

This is one of the first symptoms I remember from when I was a child. Both sharp stabbing pain inside that area, as well as near it, and also soetimes just spasms. It would scare me a lot, because the stabbing pain and discomfort was so bad. It would make me jump, and embarass me if I was in public.
This was one of many symptoms growing up that I just got through and then tried to forget about, and I never told anyone because it was embarassing and also I was pretty frightened that it could mean something serious was wrong.
So, I still get this symptom at times, but it seems to be slowly decreasing in frequency for me, with over a year into treatment now.

I went to a rectal doctor for it. He said what I was describing is called Levator Ani. He said it is common. You should google it.
He said he doesn't know what causes it but it goes away in 1-3 years. If it gets really bad he would do some type of muscle massaging.
I mentioned my Lyme and Babesia and he said the usual quote. "That is not my area". I wanted to say ...most of your practice may be Lyme patients.
I am now trying gluten free based on what people have said on this site. But I just started it. Hopefully some relief soon. Like you said it's a pain in the butt!! Posts: 472 | From New Jersey | Registered: Dec 2007

I wish mine had gone away in 1 to 3 years! I think his patients might just give up mentioning it him at that point. Mine have gone on for more than 20 years.
I don't even want to imagine what kind of muscle massaging he could have been considering if it "got really bad." Yikes!
Maybe that's why his other patients' spasms magically "went away"??
