My search function wasn't working, so I couldn't see if there's been other questions about this. I've heard about a doctor S in MD who treats L.D. with cholstyramine as a major part of his Lyme protocol. Does anyone have any exprerience with this? My doctor in PA prescribed it, knowing that it binds toxins and prevents reabsorption into the intestines, but he didn't say much else. Dr. S. does checks for something called C4a's to assess the level of neurotoxins, and apparently claims to be able to tell whether on-going infections are indeed present, by how the level of C4as decline and if symptoms remain after the neurotoxins are cleaned out. The Cholestyramine my doctor prescribed is very yucky sweet, and I'm afraid it will add to my yeast load. Can anyone comment? Thanks!

I took it for a while. It's good for binding toxins, needs to be taken away from all other meds, and can be constipating so take magnesium if you need to to keep things moving. It's a good product and seems that many LLMD's use it.

Do you see someone locally? I'm also near Cincinnati.

I've taken it but not consistently. Hope to though soon, as it's supposed to be great for helping cognitive issues.

I didn't have any side effects from it.

Most forms of Cholestyramine contain either aspartame (nutrasweet) or sucrose (sugar). Aspartame is a neurotoxin and sucrose feeds yeast.

A better option would be to get Cholestyramine that has stevia added to it as the sweetener from a compounding pharmacy. Stevia will not promote the growth of yeast.

I got my Cholestyramine with stevia compounded by the "Dollar Drug" pharmacy. The Dollar Drug pharmacy will also ship it to you.

My LLMD said that he didn't think that the small amount of sugar was anything to worry about, but I'm also on Diflucan to keep the yeast down.

It almost killed me at first too. I stuck with it and I can really feel a positive difference. I am on 2 a day and my llmd wants me to increase to 3. I will do it on Mon. once I get through the weekend. It made me constipated at first but once my body adjusted I was fine.

Feelfit, it can make the Lyme flare badly. When I was really sick and took it, I didn't notice. But when I was getting better and was prescribed it again, I flared very badly and could not take it.

oh ok, so I have been told to take this but have not. I have mind blowing headaches, especially worse when I herx......maybe I should start off slow.

The poster mentions C4a as a gauge used by Shoemaker. the reference range for C4a is 0-2800. My C4a was 46,000, very high. According to the poster, that would make me full of neuro-toxins....just thinking that I better get rid of them!

Thanks for this post,
FF

Coumpounder "Clark's Pharmacy" makes it without sugar or fillers.

Works like a charm to get rid of headaches for my teen! Smells like fish! But great toxin binder!
