My husband and I were diagnosed a year ago. We had our three year old daughter tested through
Igenix and it came back neg. We are pretty sure when we got it and felt pretty confident that
she wasn't bit nor was I breast feeding. Lately she has been telling me her finger hurts and
other things. These only last a second or two then she is fine. Otherwise perfectly healthy
happy girl. So I'm sick to my stomach again wondering if she does have it. And if so how
contagious is this really. It has been a year since she has been tested, I'm just sick with
worry, looking for some encouraging words. Thanks.

I can't give you any definitive answers, but I understand how you're feeling.
I have no idea when I was infected, and I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old who are sick a lot and often complain of odd things like pain in their fingers, legs, necks, backs, etc.
We've had insurance issues and my husband was out of work, so I've put off having them tested, but I worry too.

I was undiagnosed during my pregnancy and then breastfeed my daughter for 2 1/2 years. I know that lots of moms nurse this long, but for us, there was no choice as she had significant food allergies/intolerances and digestive issues.
She was bit by a tick at around 1 1/2 years (it was not engorged and it was attached less than several hours)
Within a week, she had multiple bull's eye rashes covering her little body. She was treated for 27 days with amoxicillian.
By the time she was 3, her general health was unremarkable, but she began to develop some significant issues with noise sensitivity, tactile sensitivity, hyperactivity, auditory processing and complaints of pain that came and went.
I remember one day finding her covering her belly with bandaids "because her belly hurt"
Fast forward 10 years and I finally took her to an llmd because I could no longer wonder if her issues (the last of which was the development of vertigo) could be lyme. Even though family, friends and local Dr.'s would never consider it.
When the llmd tells me that he does not feel that her issues are lyme related, I will stop worring (I guess!!)
I guess my long winded point is, I really, really wish I had gotten her to an llmd years ago. Her life is pretty much hell right now.
Maybe keep an eye on things other than pain with your little one. It might help you decide one way or another about testing again. If it is doable financially, maybe let a llmd give his/her input and peace of mind.
Feel free to message me if you want to talk.

Negative test results do not mean a lack of infection. I have gone through what you are dealing with. My son (then 6) was bit by a tick, developed fever and bullseye, treated immediately with 6 weeks amox and was fine.
My dd (then 2.5) was bit by a tick, developed fever, no rash, treated with 6 weeks amox same time as brother, she never resolved and deteriorated. We could not figure it out, but she had lyme and babeosis. The symptom list was tremendous, all over body pain, depression, anorexia, ocd, moodswings and this is in someone who's three!
We finally got her diagnosed by the pediatric lyme saint in New Haven, Ct. SHE IS COMPLETELY BETTER TODAY: NO MEDS, NO PAIN, NO CRAZY SYMPTOMS.
Meanwhile, I was dx with lyme and babs while breastfeeding child number three. He occaisionally has foot pain, major upper respiratory issues, etc. But according to the pediatricy lyme doc, he would not treat if he does not see fatigue in the child. The two boys have no fatigue.
In my daughter fatigue meant that she could not walk 1 block from the car to the bakery to get a cookie without crying. She would not run upstairs to get a favorite toy.
So I would carefully chronical strange symptoms including fatigue in a journal. And if you are seeking problems, take her to an llmd who can clinically diagnose. BTW: my daughter's clinical dx was confirmed by labs for the babesia, but not lyme.
For 2 years every picture this kid drew had frowny faces and within 10 days of starting meds every face had a smile (we framed some before and after for the doctor). She literally had overnight personality change. Even my husband who had counselled me that "she's just a blue personality" admitted that once she was in treatment he said "I am just getting to know my daughter".
So, my advice, is you're the parent. Trust yourself. And better to get her treated than live in denial. She can get better and fast.
