Tyler Similase by integrative therapeutics are used by most alternative doctors. Not sure you will find them at a health food store, but you might.

I use WobenzymN, buy it at Vitacost, and I have been using it for years now. It does keep my tummy sane w/o problems. When I was taking abx, they all caused my digestive system lots of upsets.
I'm never without digestive enzymes and Theralac probiotics. Both expensive, but worth it.

Wobenzym is much too expensive to be used as a digestive enzyme.
It's a necessary Lyme supplement to take on an empty stomach to be used as an anti- inflammatory, for hyper- coagulation, as a blood cleaner, and some believe it attacks bio film but to take it with meals to me seems like a waste of good money.

I have had great success with Super Digestaway by Soloray. They are very inexpensive and antiparasitic, antinflammatory. I also take them in between meals, I get them on line(vitacost) or at the vitamin shoppe.

Nothing I got OTC was strong enough for me until I got prescription Pancrelipase, and my Medicare Part D pays for it, so it's free. I have to take more than 600 capsules of it per month, so free is good.

I have a script for Creon. It works ok. I wish they had a miracle drug for the lymph backup. Better be quiet or they will put one on the market for headaches.

Standard process zypan has hcl and enzymes in it and not too expensive one or two with meals
standard process betafood helps the gallbladder keep moving and standard process cardioplus i like for heart lyme symptoms

hcl or Hydrochloric acid should be taken about 15 minutes prior to a meal to stimulate stomach acid, if you have low stomach acid , and most people do
as they get older. It helps the body naturally kick out pathogens. Hydro-Zyme by Biotics is a very good product.
Digestive enzymes should be taken in the middle of your meal to help break down and digest your food.

How does one know if they have low stomach acid? I read that if a person takes hcl and they don't have low stomach acid it could damage their stomach linings.
Seems it's hard to know if you have it or not because most doctors will simply tell you that's what your problem is and recommend you to take Prilosec or something like that.
So confusing about all this...

You are right. One should not take hcl if they don't need it. The way to find out if you have low stomach acid is to be tested by taking a Heidelberg test.
In general, however, as we age we lose stomach acid.
