I have been on doxy for almost a week and got a burn from driving in the car yesturday afternoon.

My neck was red til i went to bed and all night my skin physically hurt like the burn was getting worse.

Wierd thing is when i got up this morning, the burn faded but my skin kills and is painful.

could this be due to such a short burn like that or something else??

thanks

diana

Exposure to the sun, even for a minute, is VERY dangerous when taking doxy, or any of the tetracyclines; but esp. doxy. Please use high SPF sunscreens, wear long sleeves and driving gloves, if possible.

Even with these precautions, the sun will still burn you; even sun reflection while sitting in the shade. Best advice - Stay out of the sun as completely as possible!

sounds like the sun - it is different kind of burn, makes your skin feel like it is on fire even when there is no redness from the "burn", and just a few minutes in the car can to it do my lips.

But Doxy is what works best for me so I am willing to be cautious; no other ABX works as effectively. A lot of docs will put you on Biaxin for the summer.

I have had this doxy burn. It feels more like a chemincal burn, and you can feel it on the inside like fire, even when there isn't any redness.

My burn was on my hands, from driving, I was being very cautious otherwise. Now, since I live in Florida, I had to stop the doxy for the summer. There is no staying out of the sun in Florida!!

yes!
you have to stay OUT, totally OUT of the sun on Doxy! Wear spf 50 and cover all your skin!
if you HAVE to go out there...make it short! If its that horrible, switch to another drug for summer time.

dian,

i am sorry to hear that you got burned on doxy. its so dangerous to be in the sun while on it.

whenever taking prescriptions, its a good idea to read carefully all the product information that comes with the prescription.

but basically, the most important are:

take with food to avoid a stomach upset.

NEVER lie die within 1/2 hour from taking it. can cause serious damage to your intestinal track.

do not take with milk products.

NO SUN

i learned this the hard way too... but it will improve.

some folks get the burning feeling and tingling without even going in the sun.

doxy is very HARSH on your stomach so i hope you are taking refrigerated high culture/high strain antibiotics at least 2 hours away from the doxy and at bedtime.

good luck and hope you feel better.

I think gemofnj means take *probiotics* when using doxy.

I am only a few weeks ahead of you in my treatment. Unfortunately, my job requires me to be outside in the sun so I am now wearing hat, long pants, long sleeves and gloves. Boy is it brutal in the heat.

I did start out thinking I could get by without the gloves and just using suntan lotion and got burned. I too learned the hard way. It is just as described - like a chemical burn.

Don't assume suntan lotion will protect you. I had applied SPF 30 every 30 mins. Also the sun can get through some loosely knit clothing.

I got burned on part of my throat yesterday when I didn't realize the sun was at a low enough angle in the morning to get under my hat brim.

I've heard no dairy or no milk but what it really is is you should not have Calcium because calcium slows absoption of the doxy. Also Iron has the same effect.

Linda
