It seems that the tests are unreliable. Do I just have to wait and see if I never have any other symptoms?
Here's the story. Mid July had about 5 days of extreme fatigue and joint pains. Since I'm in a high risk group (I work in the parks), I went for testing. Came up negative.
But, then, end of July, I developed the bulls-eye rashes all over my body. My doctor immediately started me on Doxy and a repeat test showed strongly positive for Lyme.
Since about two days after starting the Doxy, I've had no symptoms. Last weekend I did have a day of fatigue and some dizzyness after being out in the sun (covered up). Could have been heat-related, or could have been herx, or could have just been combination of doxy effects, heat and my period.
Otherwise, I'm fine. Doctor has me on 100 mg Doxy 2x per day for 4 weeks.
I'm taking probiotics, and supplements (CoQ10, Alpha Lipoic Acid, B vitamin) which I found out about and started on my own.
I did get the list of LLMD for my area but none can get me in for several weeks. Since I don't have symptoms, I'm not even sure I should go.
Advice?

Stay on the doxy as long as you can. If you feel nothing symptom-like after 4 weeks treatment, go off and keep an eye out.
My son was treated with 4 weeks abx after bullseye and fully resolved. The trick is coinfections. My daughter was treated with weeks of abx after a tick bite and never resolved= she had a coinfection of babesia that requires antimalarials.
Some of the coininfections have special symtpoms like nightsweats (babesia) or foot pain (bartonella), so keep an eye out for symptoms.
I think that 4 weeks of abx CAN resolve a case of lyme, if you get it in time with no coinfections.
Of course, I'm not a doctor, so this is not medical advice.

i would highly recommend staying on it for 3 months.
lyme has a 3-4 week reproductive cycle. when it is being attacked it can hide in healthy cells or protect itself with a shield called "biofilm."
See these guidelines by the top lyme doctors in the USA for typical treatment and diagnosis.
ps. be careful to never lie down within a half hour of taking doxy or you can seriusly burn your esophagus.
good luck and keep us posted. Posts: 1127 | From atlantic city, nj | Registered: May 2008

I would do some research on Syphilis which is
closely related to Bb and known to become latent.
It may help you decide whether you want to take
that chance or not. I did many short course
antibiotics over the last 2 years for this and
that and still went on to become severe
neuroborreliosis. It may even be other options
like CD57 or TNF testing that can help make that
decision.
