So went to doctor today.....He confirmed i have lyme by my test i think.

He put me on these two drugs ,,,,exactly what do you suggest for some one who is feeling pretty ****ty and is EXTREMELY sensitive, and has a stomach who is hating her from doxi last month to do starting this protocal.

Should i try by starting one at a time to make sure i dont have a bad reaction.. ?
Like i just took the antibiotic by itself to start, As i want to know how im effected so i dont get confused as to which one is making me ill or not. [confused]

Is it ok to start off smaller on the doses?

Has anyone else been on this combo of medicine?

Anything else anyone can suggest?

he told me to take metamucal 10 mins prior to taking medicine....

I dont remember him specifically saying take the two togather or not. [confused]

thanks for any help

You should always start things one at a time if you can because then you can tell better what is causing what effect.

I took clarithromycin (aka: Biaxin)and hydroxychloroquine (aka: Plaquenil) together for several months.

Since you already started the antibiotic, stick with that for a couple days, see how you tolerate it. Then add the Plaquenil.

You can take both meds at the same time and with food. Food will help prevent upset stomach.

Biaxin is easier on the stomach than doxy. It can also make you depressed temporarily, or other psychological/emotional symptoms, so watch out for that sneaking up on you. I found that if I stopped it for a couple of days the feelings would go away, and now it never happens anymore.

I don't get the metamucil part- I think it's psyllium husk, which I'd worry about binding up some of yo9ur medicine and making it not as available for absorption. He's probably thinking that it prevents constipation (it can act as both an anti-diarrhea and as a laxative, which sounds odd but works differently depending on what's wrong and how much you're taking). I would ask him the rationale next time.

also, that combo of drugs is VERY effective according to a number of doctors.

Well... I have done half of the dose last night and this morn 250 of biaxin. AND IM IN LALA land , i feel horrible, bad bad migrane but i had this before i started- seemed to stick around even for days after stopping doxi.... no energy, extremely drained. My brain is like spaced out so much, feels like when you wake in the middle of night after youve drunk too much but the feeling last ALL DAY.
Yes depressed as all hell feeling like this and alwyas get depressed when im really ill especially now as im trying to figure out how to get an apartment and how i will work feeling like this to support myself... This is how i felt on the doxi two weeks in.

I am now taking half of that tonight to see how i feel.
I guess ill try adding the placnial in a day or so.
He wants to see me in a week.
This is all very new to me, i feel like im lost and my problem is def some kind of co infection that showed on test, will get details next week when i ask for copy. Ive been sick for almost 10 years , im only 27. And my problem is very nero- and emotional.

Any suggestions to make this easyier on me besides lowering dose.
Detox methods, foods you took with medicine, ect.
keep in mind i am on a very limited budget and am practically homeless atm. So i cant afford expensive massages or colonics.
Im taking cholera, and drinking lemon water even tho i was told on a scratch test i was alergic to all citrus foods.

I was suggested to try coffee enemas, anyone find luck with this?

Thanks

Catherine

Hey Catherine,

I am currently on Biaxin and Plaquenil for a second time. I think it is one of the best combo's around so if you can stick it out I urge you to try your hardest.

It is rough, right now im at 500mg Biaxin and 200mg Plaquenil, half the recommended dose essentially. But I can tolerate this dose somewhat so my doctor is keeping me at it.

The idea of this combo is slow and steady, take what you can tolerate and go from there, don't over do it.

Be sure to eat before you take it, its fine to take em both at the same time, I do. Once I take it, if you can I try to hit the couch or just do as little as possible to bare the side effects that it brings on within the first couple hours.

Both drugs are rough, but overtime they ease up. Never to a point where its easy, but if you can stick with it you may see some benefit from this combo, i'm hoping to atleast. And I have heard many people see success on it.

If you aren't doing probiotics already, start.

trevor.

Catherine,

I am on the same meds starting very low as my Md did not want to push me off the deep end (ie I am taking 250mg Biaxin and 1/2 plaquenil every other day) only approaching my 4th dose and I feel like I have the flu.

At first I wanted to just zap it all away but then I realized the wisdom of taking it slowly so I could tolerate the treatment.

I keep wondering if 1,500 or 2,000 mg Biaxin is more effective than 1,000 mg. My ID doc said no difference at all according to the literature. I'm on the larger side.

I tolerate 1,000 fine and often wonder if I'd get better benefit at 1,500 mg. I'm also on Ceftin too.

Anyone notice major improvements escalating their Biaxin dose above 1,000 mg?

Ok so im tolerating the dose, but the most of plaqnil ive taken is 1/2 tablet in the am, i feel it makes me kinda of high and feel a bit scared about taking it, i dont understand but now that im on this combo even for a few days, my energy is better but my anxiety is worse, i feel like i have a hard time breathing slowly and regularly also im not sleeping very well.
On the doxicycle i was sleeping better as it made me so out of it.
Im tempted to try the doxi again today just so i can get some sleepiness at night time, i aslo feel that my pain in areas was better on it.= even tho it totally wreaked my stomach.

I mean should i try to go up to a whole pill each dose of the biaxon, and slowly work up the plaqnil?

I am seriously considering seeing what the doxi does to me today if i go back to that today.
Is it safe to experiment?

Has anyone noticed that the palqnuel causes problems with mood?
Why is it so neccessary to take with biaxon>
If you had expiernces that were uncomfortable with moods brain ect, sleep taking plaqunel did it go away after awhile?

I know when a med hits me hard so far like abx i get depressed only cus it makes me so out of it, this i can tolerate if it lets up or i can lower dose but i honestly dont know about this plaqunel.
