My 21 yr old daughter, with lyme, babesia, bartonella, who is much better on treatment has nasal allergies that annoy her constantly. She takes Allegra, but that doesn't help her nose much. I know steroids and lyme are a "no-no". Do you think she should NOT use the Nasonex type nose sprays because they have steroid use. OR, are they okay because, if used correctly, the steroid is supposed to just go into nasal tissue? THANK YOU.

We asked LLMD the same question at last visit and was told Nasonex type spray should be fine.

NasalCrom is worth considering too. It's a mast cell inhibitor -- no steroids and OTC. But it needs to be dosed somewhat frequently to work.

Nasonex was a gigantic no-no for me. It caused my voicebox to become irritated and swollen, and as I result I've never regained my full speaking voice, even some 10 years later. I'd hate to see others similarly harmed.

Pinch the top of your nose (where your eyeglasses it) when taking them-this supposedly prevents it from going down your throat
