I haven't had diarrhea really, but sudden gas pain and bloated like I'm 3 mo. pregnant. My doc hasn't called - too busy, they say. I'm scared of c-def - my husband's gramma died from it. I've been on ABx for 5 mo. Right now on Cefdinir and Zithro. 2 days ago, he deleted Zithro and started Doxy. I'm also taking "Align" probiotic.

Any ideas out there?

If you just started Doxy, that could be the culprit. Doxy is pretty rough on the digestive tract.

How much probitic are you taking? Maybe you need to increase till your body adjusts to the Doxy--I know I had to for a while.

Are you taking the Doxy with food? It's good to take it mid-meal if it's causing GI disturbances.

As Starfall said, it can be really harsh on the digestive tract.

How long have you been taking that probiotic?

This is on their website:
quote:

Will Align Cause Excess Gas or Bloating?

Align doesn't cause bloating. In fact, two clinical trials with Align showed a significant reduction in bloating over the four-week study period.

Even so, in the first few days of taking Align, some people may notice a temporary increase in bloating.

This is normal, and is a clear sign that Align is working to balance your system. If you experience this sensation at the beginning of Align, be sure to stick with it--it will go away soon.

If at any time you are concerned about how your body is responding to the probiotic strain in Align, you should contact your healthcare professional for advice.

Also- since that's only a Bifidobacterium strain, you might want to take another type as well, such as Acidophilus, so that you are addressing both small & large intestinal flora.

Thank you - this is great info! I just really didn't know what to think. I kind of had to wait and see if anything changed, symptom-wise. I was confused about the different types of probiotic and the pharmacist wasn't there for me to ask. I'll have to research that more.

I was nervous that it was a pre-symptom to c-def.

I have been on doxy for 2 months. It is very hard on the stomach. My LLMD told me to take it with food. I take it in the middle of my meal.

I also had to increase my probiotics and I also drink Kefir which really soothes the stomach. A few days after increasing my probiotics and drinking Kefir, my stomach felt better.

I also take prilosec once a day and this really helps. Remember to take all of these at least 2 hours away from antibiotics.

OK, so I heard back from my doc. Says to sandwich AbX with a fiber pill (citracel for example). Take one fiber pill, wait 5 min. take ABX and then a full meal.

Tummy is still bloated - will see if it'll work.

hey there smiles,

just thought i would pass some tips your way.

stomach bloating is a very common symptom of yeast.

you can do the spit test if you are not sure if you have yeast.

(i know YUCK)
http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/pdf/Spit_Test.pdf

the product align you are taking appears to only have 1 billion cultures vs the refrigerated kind that have up to 50 billion cultures and more than 10 strains.

they help to replace good flora your antibiotics are killing on a daily basis.

NSI 15-35, Megaflora by Megafoods, 20 billion 14 strains, or Renew Life Ultimate Flora CRITICAL CARE, 50 billion/10 strains are a few popular ones.

just in case you dont know, usually you take them with/near food and one at bedtime. ALWAYS take at least 2-3 hours away from antibiotics or supplements or the cultures will be killed and be rendered ineffective.

Oregamax and Fungal Defense work really well to kill yeast.

There are also lots of herbal antifungal herbs which help to fend off yeast. Some are olive leaf extract, oregano, coconut oil, garlic, pau 'de arc, etc.

if you do a search at the top there is loads of information on yeast and antifungals.

good luck!
