Did anyone get sick by taking the Flagyl the first week?
My brother is starting to develop somewhat of lyme symptoms. I have it and he doesn't want to go get tested. He went to Gastro for stomach issue's and she gave him flagyl and he feels so sick on it! Like feverish and just not well.
From what i know...flagyl is a killer for lyme right and could it be that it's hitting lyme hard and he feels sick with it?
thanks!!

Flagyl is also used to kill off intestinal parasites such as giardia, etc., in addition to it's use in lyme treatment.
It is a very difficult drug to tolerate, whether or not you have Lyme.
Have him look at a detailed Lyme symptom list and see if he has any other symptoms of Lyme. Just responding terribly to taking flagyl doesn't necessarily mean that he has Lyme disease.
Also, killing off intestinal parasites will produce some of the awful side affects of killing off the Lyme spirochete.
I guess the real question is why did the doctor prescribe flagyl. Did he test positive for intestinal parasites?

No, he just has gastro-intenstinal symptoms all of sudden. He went to a gastro and he RX him Flagyl for stomach discomfort. I think he was ordered for a stool test but never got it done.
Ok i didn't know that flagyl is used for intestinal parasites as well.
I always heard people having problem taking that drug...why is it so hard on the system?

I can only do a little 1/4th of pill to start. I would be most curious to see what an Igenex would say when he gets done.

In Lyme Flagyl is used to bust open the cyst form lyme spirochetes change into to resist and protect themselves from other antibiotics like doxy. It usually is pulsed every few days as you take like doxy everyday, you throw in flagyl one day to bust open cysts and follow through on the kill w doxy

Wild one if 1/4 pill drops me in bed I am afraid of what a full dose will do to me. I can't go to er and say I just took a pill of flagyl and I am dying. Next stop would be the state farm.

Flagyl can cause a multitude of symptoms by itself, having nothing to do with a herx reaction.
If you can afford it, I suggest Tindamax, which is like Flagyl's newer cousin. Most assert it to be just as powerful a cyst buster as Flagyl, but with fewer side effects.
I just finished a course of.. Omnicef 300 BID Minocycline 200 BID Tindamax 500 BID.

OK I felt like a baby and bumped up the F. Now my twitching has started. Question: does this continue as long as on F or will it stop.

Twitching is a sign that the medication is working. It should eventually stop but the flagyl is doing what it's supposed to do.
If you were on a full dose it may stop sooner but twitching is part of lyme treatment for many. Everyone is different but IMO there is no way to fight this illness without blasting it and feeling like hell. You have to feel like hell to come out ahead. Flagyl in particular is one of those meds that relly makes you feel like hell.
But why are you on flagyl and not Tindamax. Most people tolerate it better and don't feel as awful and it's just as effctive per the Brorson studies.
An in vitro study of the susceptibility of mobile and cystic forms of Borrelia burgdorferi to tinidazole ...search on pubmed.

Thanks I will check it out. I got all generics that may be why. I think I will park in the hot tub to see if that helps. I loathe this bug.

Make sure it is brand name Flagyl, not generic. A poster on another forum stressed this because her doctor told her he was having a lot of problems with patients on generic Flagyl.
I tolerate more Flagyl with the brand name.

Here's my experience: I have been taking 374 mg of Metroconozole (generic Flagly)twice a day 7 days a week for 2.5 months. I have only had a positive response to it. My balance has improved, I feel less ADD, my memory is better and my energy is better. Don't get wrong, I am far from well but this is the first drug to actually help me improve in these areas.
You do need to be careful with this medication as it can cause permanent neuropothy. I never had a herx or bad response of any kind to this mendication. Personally, I would be caucious about upping a dose if you feel bad already. Just my thoughts...
Good luck!
