When my PICC line went in last year, I had mild pain on the left side of my chest. Then a dose of IV Doxy burned the area.
We took the PICC out.
I've had mild intermittent pain in same area and now it's 1 year later.
It's worse if I take doxy or mino.
I'm supposed to get another PICC line soon.
My LLMD doesn't seem concerned about this.
I asked my LLMD's PA who I could see about this - she said cardiologist first.
My GP said it could be scarring.

Any ideas about what to do? what to think?

I've experienced similar at other injury sites. At injury locations, our bodies change the action of the immune system to as to allow for new cell growth and healing. Bb is better able to gain a foothold at such locations, leading to chronic inflammation and pain at the site.

That doxy and mino worsen the symptom a suggestive of a herx reaction, which would be expected given the above.

The only thing that reduces that type of inflammation and pain for me is benicar, at high doses.

jaykay, it is my understanding that IV Doxy should be infused through a port-cath because it can be caustic to the vein. When I infused IV Doxy, it was through a port for this reason.

What med will you be infusing this time? If it will be Doxy, I suggest talking with your doctor about this.

I won't use IV Doxy again.
Actually, I've been sick with a cold/flu this week, and the pain in chest got worse...but now it seems a lot better??
Let's see if it stays that way!!

bettyg - Wasn't sure if I found the correct page 2 -- but i will keep looking..
