I had my knee exrayed because of severe pain. The exray showed that the knee is worn out from the wear and tear type of arthritis.I don't think the bones are chipped yet but the cushion between the bones is gone.
I would asuume this is permanat damage. So when the lyme disease gets better will the knee still need replaced or will it since get better even though it is worn out?
i'm not had any knees replaced but my late dad had both done!
fyi, he was never diagnosed with lyme but had it almost 80 years!! now that i know the symptoms, someone should have figured that out on all the things that happened to his health.
both knees worn out; after surgery NO PAIN IN EITHER!!! he was so glad to have done surgery; he wanted to resume DANCING POLKAS/WALTZ even after mom's death ...
he did dance a couple but congestive heart failure and replaced 2 main valves took its tool on him.
he did comment to me once, he should have had his knees done decades earlier! he had to wait on one being done since mom was going thru her cancer surgery and died 2 yrs. later ...

The lyme loves these knees . It is so horrible.
Long before I knew it was Lyme the knees would hurt upon exercise , like weak and collapsable .
If it were just the inflammation I can be treated back to health you would think as long as say muscle didnt scar.
There is also the Vitamin D deficiency that lyme causes. After that goes to far it can cause bone diffusion or osteoporosis . Some of that is reversable some isnt.
Everything is about getting it early.
Poor Lymies are the last to be cought early
Even that D*** congestive heart can be caused by biofilm plaque.
My LLMD suggests serrapeptase for biofilm breakup it also helps pain and joint

Once the cushion between the bones is gone, it never grows back. That is impossible. You only get one cushion in a lifetime.
Bone on bone is terrible pain.
My husband, who has never had lyme, got a partial knee replacement 1 year ago. He is very, very happy with it. The pain is instantly gone.
Only advice is to be sure to do the therapy. You want a fully functional knee when you are done, so therapy is a must. You should be very happy with your result.
