The past week has seen a flare-up of insomnia for me. For the past year I've tended to wake up several times a night, and at times have taken one or two hours to fall asleep. This past week, though, I've literally been up all night with a racing heartbeat, a feeling of constriction in my chest making breathing painful, and burning eyes. I think I must be getting exposed to some chemical or allergen in the air but can't figure out what it could be. I live near a plastic factory, so I wonder if anyone with MCS has experienced flare-ups at certain times (maybe when the factory is more active?).
I'm scratching my head to come up with other answers. Here are some of my attempts:
- 2 weeks ago, I started IVIG, but I haven't heard of this being a side effect anyone has experienced.
- I had a new housemate move in to my apartment, and she moved out of a place that had a mold problem, but she cleaned everything she owned thoroughly. Besides, for me mold usually heightens my fatigue, rather than causing this weird racing heartbeat and all that.
- I hear that in New England this is a big allergy time of year, but I'd think if it was an allergy that I'd be experiencing sneezing and a runny nose, as I do sometimes when exposed to pollen.
- I wonder if there's something that's changed regarding my indoor air quality. I moved into a smaller room in my apartment this past week, so could I be trapping air in there? Should I get rid of any clothing that's not 100% organic, that could be off-gassing? Could my particle board desk be off-gassing (even though it's 2 years old and didn't bother me in the last room I was in, which was larger)?
Has anyone experienced this or something similar and found a way to address it? Any ideas for avenues to go down to make a determination?
Thank you for your help!!! Ben
