If a normal, healthy person takes biaxin (250mg)and plaquenil (1/2 tablet) would it make them feel sick within 2 hrs?

Just wondering if this is a side effect feeling or a lyme reaction feeling

Either ABX have side effects or everyone has something that causes a herx, google any abx and side effects if ya find one with out a list of people complaining good luck.

I personally think the majority of perceived lyme herxs are side effects. Especially if the symptoms occur within the first 24 hours/

My husband is a pharmacist and says that someone taking Biaxin for a general infection that's no big deal would not feel how we do with herxes.

He said it might make them feel nauseous or upset stomach but not the sick feeling, dizziness, etc that I get when I take it.

Don't know about the Plaquenil, I'm taking Biaxin and Biaxin ER right now though.

I never felt sick on Biaxin infact I just felt better except completely losing my ability to sleep when on it, so I stopped taking it.

they wouldn't it is a theoretical question..
trying to separate side effects from lyme things

It does seem that most lyme people think everything is a herx. I'm trying to figure that all out

Not all people experience all side effects from ANY given drug.

On the rare occasion that my DH has taken ABX, (& FWIW - he HAS taken Biaxin), he always feels much better very quickly.

He couldn't believe me when I told him that I thought it was normal to feel worse first because you're killing off the germs.

Two people with the same illness, taking the same ABX, may experience different effects.

If you google "Biaxin prescribing info" or go to the manufacturer's website & look it up, you'll find all the side effects listed & how often they occur in treatment group vs placebo. That may provide the answers you're looking for.

Also, chances are anyone posting here is likely to actually HAVE tick-borne disease so they would all likely feel sick on ABX. I doubt any of us would be able to speak for the reaction of a "normal" person.

[confused]

Before Lyme, I took Biaxin twice. Once for pneumonia, once for lymphangitis and cellulitis from a spider bite. I was very very sick with high fevers from the infections. Biaxin made me feel better and cleared my infections quickly both times.

I would venture to say that most healthy people do not feel sick from taking antibiotics. When taken appropriately to treat bacterial infections most people feel better once on the medication.

Some people are more sensitive and do experience side effects/ symptoms from medications or the flavors, dyes, preservatives, and fillers used in making them.

Purple, if you are feeling sick only 2hrs after taking the medication makes me wonder if you are experiencing a side effect rather than a herx.

Make sure you taking your medications with plenty of food and swallowing the pills with a whole glass of water? These things should help.

I have been taking biaxin/plaquenil protocol for over 1 year (along with levaquin and mepron). I am convinced that the upset stomach and general feeling of malaise is a herx, because I do not always get the symptoms.

In the beginning I was experiencing many effects, which I believe were all herxs. Now that I am getting better, the herxs are less frequent but can be more pronounced-I think because I was so sick in the beginning.

How long have you been taking the combo and are you charting how you feel each day?

I wondered today if it is because I take them at night(with dinner and fluids) if I feel worse just because it also happens to be the end of the day and I am wipe out.

I have o nly been taking it almost 3 weeks, 1st 2 weeks every other day, only on 1/2 plaq tablet an 250mg biaxin (I know it's peanuts!!!) Just wondering how I will ever tolerate more..

I need to keep a journal for sure

I had this issue too with Biaxin Plaquenil.
In just exactly about 2 hours it hit me like a rock. ... and then it lasted almost a whole day.

Then I would not feel that same reaction and when I took it again.. In two hours again it happened.

My doc says Herx. I was thinking some reaction too.

I started to try various things like Anit hystamines etc and.. When taking Singulair two hours before my dose I could take the dose and not feel that affect near as badly and that is how I dosed up.

But once I dosed up. .Singulair or not. I started feeling aweful all the time.

Ok Now..After about 4 months. I tried the med again and well. I do NOT have that same affect.

My doc says that means we hit some of the infection down and I am not herxing so much now.

Hey if thats true great.
But for me it still felt like i was being poisoned or strange reaction. But then why can I take it now without that happening?

And same amounts and same other meds.!

Strange.. Things happen with this Strange Disease.!

And we all keep guessing what is what. including our doctors..
